At a conference of tlio executive coni mit1e of the Ie!ocratic ?.irtv of North ( ;tro!ii'a, he'd in Itak-i-!i. May 20th, 1 f-:5, the following n-o'ut ions were adopt c-d and nrd.-red to he pub lished : 1ft. That the executive roHiniitn.- of the democratic party of tie St at '. of North Carolina, acting ami j-p-kin;r for and in le-lialf of the party, re-jmh-lish, reiterate and emphasize t he decla ration of the party made in the htate convention, Aiijfut, IS'.it, in fav,,r of the Tree and unlimite d roin.jp; of sil ver at the ratio of i to I. 2d. That ti'i" rl -i pp-snn.' vr-T!ts have proven the wisdom of this :it- declaration of t!ie party on this a!l-ab-sorbing question, and we appeal to the Democratic press and people of the .State to 'ive it their loyal, open and aggressive "iipporf. 3rd. That in advocating tha free and unlimited coinage of silver by the -oven, ment of t he United S'ates. we are not asking any favors or con. e-io!ix frm any one, hut are simply demand ing that the great wrong done the masses of the American people hy the Kepublican party in 1m7:I he undone, and that silver he restored to the posi tion it occupied from the foiimlat ion of our government up to the perpetration of that great Republican crime lib That in our judgment the im mediate resumption of the free and un limited coinage of silver by the gov ernment of the United States, as it ex isted prior to iST.'i, without waiting one moment for the co-operation, and without reference to the conduct or policy of any nation on earth, i.s the great duty that now confronts the American people, ami we appeal to all men of every shade of pol it i-:ll opinion in North Carolina who believe as we do that the restoration of the tree and unlimited coinagH of silver means the restoration of prosperity to our homes, to join with us in the great hat lb.' of &'.;, which we intend to wagr to wipe out t he Republican crime of lSui, ami t secure for our be'oed old State good laws and government. 5th. That we send greetings to our democratic brethren of Illinois, thank ing them for the bold, open aid ag gressive sta.id thy have taken in fa vor of the immediate resumption of the coinage of silver, ami we send them our assurances of our hearty sympa hy and co-operatian in lsl;. Ot h. That regarding the question of the resumption of the free and unlim ited coiuage of silver as the overshad owing one in American po'itics, we urge that such action be taken by the various bi-m-t illic leagues as w II open the way to a union of the friends of silver coinage in their support of a candidate for the presidency and can didates for Congress who can be relied upon to stand by the people in their great irJggle for financial emancipa tion from the evils of the single gold standard. 7th. That while we concede the right of every citizen of the State to go as a delegate to the so-called sound money convention, to be held in Memphis this week, or to be represented by delegates thereto, we at the same time pro!-.-t that in so doing they do not represt tit the democratic, sentiment of this Mate. The rumor is current that II. A. (.5iulevr has left tho IVnioeratie party ami joined the lh-pnldie:ins. It is said that ho has prepared a letter setting forth the reasons for hisehai'go, which will he publish,' 1 boon. Too ?Iany Idlri-K llic'Ti otililv. If you ask i man, who is always grumbling about hard titnes an J the high-handed manner in which the governmental alVairs are run. what he has to sell or what he does to cam money, ie will almost in variably answer, nothing." If lie has anything to sell it has proba bly been so little cared for till it is worthless, and if ho docs anything it is generally in such a manner that his services arc never wanted again. If dead-heads ami loaf rs would tpiit so much grumbling and idleness and g to work, times would bo decidedly better. What I'roc Coinage Is. Some idea of the logical for.-cof Bryan's effort may be gathered from the following paragraph which contains his most ehVrtive "hit." "Now, what i. free coinage? Win people talk as if free coinage was n process by which tho government would buy silver a' a certain price It is not. Wo have the free coinage of gold now. That simply means t hat if you haw a piece of gold bul lion you can take it to the mint and have it converted into coin and the gold dollars will lo han ded back to you Now, what we mean by free coinage is to give sil ver tho same rights you give to gold. If a man ha s'ilvr bullion h-t him take it to the mint, hae it converted into coin, and let him take, his silver dollars back with him. That is what free coinage means." Atlanta Journal. Rev. P. L. Groome hat bought nearly a half interest in tho North Carolina Christian Advocate and is again actively at work on the paper. The 1'oitiae Question. j For the Newton Enterprise : he Newton Entri.
