It is a matter of nublic record 1 that a fexv jears ago, at the Metho- j dist District conference at Moore s- ille, the Pastor of the Marion sta tion in his report reflected eome- xvhat upon the character of the Marion people. Just as the report! was about to go to the record, Prof. Will sprang to his 'feet on the con ference floor, and commenced one of his 'characteristic andf impas- sioned speeches in defense of the people of Marion. To those who have heard him on such occasions, it is needless to saythat he had the offensive part, of the report strick en from the record. We ha'e hundreds of times heard Professor A bernethy speak in the tenderest terms of the people of Marion, and of his earliest recol lections of the town. We believe that the people xvould appreciate this statement in the Record. Respectfully, Rev. J. W. Kennedy. boar, auUdopes, em in anu oilier birds W. C. XEWLAND Lenoir, X.
