DISPOSAL OF DEAD ANIMALS Burning Large Carcasses Is Difficult and Laborious and Requires Large Amount of Fuel. Dead animals on the farm should be buried deep enough to prevent them from being dug up again, or they should be burned. To bum large car-: casses like those of dead horses and cattle is difllcult and laborious and re-1 quires a large quantity of fuel. In j most instances it is more economical! to bury them. * All animals which have died of in-| fectiov.g diseases and are buried should be covered with a heavy layer of lime before the graves are closed. No Second Primary In Congres sional Race. Asheville Citizen, 10th. Senator Zebulon Weaverof Ashe ville, is the democratic nominee for congress from the Tenth con gressional district. A teiiegram from Judge M. H. Justice, of Rutherfordton, runner-up in the recent statewide primary, received yesterday by Senator Weaver, an nounces that Judge Justice will not call for a second primary, but, in the interest of harmony and for the best interests of the democratic party, will not ask the democrats to go to the polls again. Judge Justice also offers congratulations to Senator Weaver and pledges his earnest support to the successful nominee in the November elections. Official returns from the Tenth district were received by The Citi zen yesterday, and show the votes of the various candidates as follows: Zebulon Weaver, 4,583; Judge M. H. Justice, 3,074; Sol. Gallert, 2,- 043; Frank S. Hewitt, 803. This makes the total vote cast for con gressman in the Tenth district 10,- 503, with 5,252 necessary to nomi nate. Mr. Weaver lacked just 669 votes of having the necessary num ber, but his plurality over Judge Justice, his next nearest opponent, was 1,059 votes. The action of Judge Justice in withdrawing from a second pri mary, and not forcing the demo crats to go to the polls again met with the warmest commendation here yesterday among the leading democrats of the city, and at the same time, assured Senator Wea ver of a solid backing against Con gressman Jamfes J. Britt in the November elections. Both Mr. ijewitt and Mr. Gallert have al ready tendered congratulations, and have promised their earnest support to Mr. Weaver this fall, Mr. Gallert, in particular, express ing his intention of “.taking off his coat” in the interests of the demo cratic party, as he has so often done before. “This action of Judge Justice,” declared a leading democrat yester day, “will do a great deal toward cementing the interests of the democratic party in the district in ane supreme effort this fall, and I am satisfied that, when the returns from the November election are in and counted, it will be found that the democrats of the district are again represented in congress.” No Second Primary tor State Of ficers. Have you been read log the news frona Chicago? And iii-especial that part of the news which tells of the doings of North Carolina Republicans at the Republican Na tional Convention ? If so those re- portis are full of confirmation of the repeated declarations of this paper that Marion Butler is the supreme Boss of the Republican party in North Carolina. The Butler forces ruled in the assigning of committee places to members of the delegation, and Butler himself took the chief place, that of membership on the Com mittee on Platform, defeating James J. Britt, the only Republi can Congressman from North Caro lina. Marion Butler and his forces are rubbing it in on Britt. At the Republican State Convention Britt only got on the Delegation com mittee by a bit of good fortune, for the Butler forces were against him, though not daring to get out in the open. But they put in the knife at Chicago, and twisted it. Butler is the Boss of the Repub licans of North Carolina. That was demonstrated at the Republi can State Convention. It was demonstrated in the Third District Congressional Convention. It has been demonstrated wherever there has been any opposition to the But ler program. It was demonstrated at the State-wide primary in keep ing Republicans from voting for a choice for President. It is being even more fully demonstrated at Caicago, where Butler absolutely dominates the Republican delegates from North Carolina. SAWDUST IS A GOOD FIRE EXTINGUISHER Sawdust will extinguish small firos in garages, and its value is greatly in creased by the addition of bicarbonate of soda (baking powder). The sawdust floaty and forms a blanket over the "burning oil, while bi carbonate of soda, when exposed to heat, gives off carbon dioxide gas, which helps to prevent combustion by shutting off access of air. A mixture of 10 pounds of bicarbonate to 1 bush el of sawdust has been found to be satisfactory. AMERICAN UNION CLAIMS PAID.
