University Opens Fall Term.
Cbapel Hill, N. C., Sept. 18.—
The University of North Carolina
opened its doors to students on
Tuesday, Sept. 12, when registra
tion for the session of 1916-17 be-

first student, Hinton James, re
ported to the first and only pro
fessor at that time. Dr. David Ker,
for work at the University. Reg
istration has likewise increased
from the one and only student
registered that year to the 1090
students reported by President
Graham at the formal opening on
Friday. Eegistration continues to
go on, and the total has already
passed 1100, the largest yet known
this early in the year.
There was frost in middle Ten
nessee last Saturday, the earliest
in twenty years.
