MOST EFFECTIVE REMEDY MOTHER HAD EVER USED Or. CaldwelPs Syrup Pepsin Re lieves Baby When Other Medi cines Failed. There is nothing so necessary to a ^child’s health and comfort as regularity •of the bowels. All children are espe- •cially sasceptible to stomach trouble and aaaj overstrain of the sensitive organs -lias a tendency to obstruct elimin ition This condition is responsible for much • of the illness of childhood. To relieve constipation a mild laxa- ^-tive should be employed Cathartics lind purgatives are violent in their action and >^oald be avoided Mrs. Alfred Du Bois, Mt. Holly, N. J., says Dr. Cald well's Syrup Pepsin is without doubt the most effective remedy for constipa tion she has ever used and that it; is the only remedy she could find for her baby. Little Earl was badly constipated dur ing his first year and nothing she tried «eemed to help him until she got a bot tle of Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin. Now he is a fin& strong, healthy boy, and she thanks Dr. Caldwell for it. Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin is a com bination of simple laxative herbs with pepsin, free from opiates or narcotic drugs; it acts gently without griping or other discomfort, and appeals to chil dren because of its pleasant taste. Drug- Earl Du Bois gists everywhere sell it for fifty cents a bottle, and eyery*4uother should have it in the house for use whenever occa sion arises. To avoid iaaitations and ineffective substitutes always be sure to ask for Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin. Vanderbilt estate, part of which has been purchased by the Govern- i&ent. The land is located near Ashe^lle and Biltmore, N. 0. Owing to the protection against hunting which has been afforded the tracti for a number of years, the game has not been killed out, as is the case in most places in the southern mountains. Deer, wild turkey, and pheasants are said to be plentiful. If you have a news item, person al or any item of local news of in terest The Progress will appreciate your giving it in at any time. Raleigh, Nov. 9.—Mr. A. J. Reed of ihe^ Office of Dairjping Farming of the Animal Industry Division, announces that the ser vices of a £eld man has been se cured to place Jersey Cattle in the state. While at the National Live stock Show at Springfield, Massa chusetts, Mr. Reed succeeded in interesting the Jersey Cattle Club in North Carolina to the extent that they will send Mr. R. L. Pike to look over the prospects for in creasing the number of pure bred Jerseys in the state. Mr. Reed will personally accom pany Mr. Pike around over the Dairy section in an effort to show him the great strides North Caro lina is taking in developing this branch of Livestock farming. Other members of the Extension Service will then accompany Mr. Pike to localities in which they are familiar with conditions. It is then expected that the County Agents will take him in charge in an effort to make the use of pure bred dairy cattle more general. Mr. Pike will arrive around the first of November and a carload of Jerseys will be shipped soon after. The first consignment will go to Ridgeway where the farmers have been demanding Jersey Cattle for some time. About one half of the shipment will be left at Ridgeway and the remainder will be brought to Raleigh. It is expected that this tour of the state will result in much valu able information being given the farmers in the care and handling of Jersey Cattle, and that the breed will become familiar in dairy and butter Doints in the state. Brief Items. A ton of soy beans will yield about 40 gallons of oil useful in various ways. There are 70 national bird reser vations, of which 67 are in charge of the Department of Agriculture. Care should be taken to handle alfalfa hay so as not to lose leaves, as these contain considerably more than 50 per *cent of the feeding value of the hay. After testjing his 17 cows through a cow-testing association, a Ne braska farmer sold 7 and received more profii; from the 10 remaining animals than he had received for merly from the whole herd. The United States meat-inspcc tion service certified to the whole someness of 11,220,958,000 pound# of meat from 61,826,304 animals during the last fiscal year. It con demned 348,945 animals and 738,- 361 parts of animals, equivalent to about 84,320,000 pounds of meat. Four Amendments Have Been Ratified. Raleigh, Nov. 10.—^It is very generally conceded that the four amendments to the constitution passed by the last legislature re ceived ratification at the polls Tues day, although there are every meager reports as to the actual vote on them. The Wake county canvassers found that they were ratified by good majorities in most of the pre cincts in Wake. However, the vote on the amendments does not anything like keep pace with the total general election vote cast. If the amendments are ratified, as they most probably are, they will be effective just as soon as their ratificdtion is officially de clared by the state board of educa tion. To g«io twenty ooabds in weight at the ripe old age of 79 years is just what Mrs. L. B. Horsey^ of 72? North Main Street, High Point, has enjoyed through 5 bottles of Tanlac. This venerable lady is lot^ed by the hundreds of her towns people who marvel at her remark* able change in health, for Mrs. Horney had suffered for the past 20 years. “Why. I feel so good all over that I can walk up-town now—a distance of 7 squares—and my friends tell me I look 10 years younger,” Mrs. Horney said. “On ly a short time back I was barely able to walk about the house. I would suffer from heart fluttering and, after everything seemed to turn black before me, I would fall, helpless. I lost in weight and strenght until I was nearly com pletely run-down. During those 20 years or more of my ills I was treated by five different physicians and took every kind of medicine I heard of without getting any last ing relief. I was low when I heard of Tanlac through a relative. “From the start Tanlac did the work. My appetite returned and with it came strength and an in crease of 20 pounds in weight. Heart trouble has left me. If 5 bottles of Tanlac can work such a change in a woman of my age, I feel it a duty to tell about it. It is now 4 months since I finished the last bottle and I keep on gain ing right along.” Tanlac is sold in Marion only by J. W. Streetman.
