The first snow of the season—a
light one—fell here Thursday
night and was followed by an all
day snow Monday. By evening
the snow measured 6 i inches and
Monday "night the temperature
reg;istered three degrees above
zero, the lowest temperature here
for several years.
John H. Gray, of Statesville,
who formerly resided here and
managed the Marianna Hotel for
some time, has leased the Eagle
hotel building from G. W. Craw
ford and will re-open the hotel
abc>ut March 1st. The building
is now being re-modeled from top
to )x>ttom and as soon as the im
provements are completed Mr.
Gray will take charge, it is learn
ed.
F. B. Gwin, for the past fifteen
years connected with the Southern
Railway freight office at Hickory
and for some time chief clerk, ar
rived last w^k to relieve J. F.
Conniffe, agent here, for three
months. Mri._Oonniffe is connected
with the Marion Cash Feed Com
pany and for the present will de
vote his time to this business. He
asked for a vacation some time
ago and Mr. Gwin was sent to re
lieve him last week.
