^ Soy Bean A Promising Crop.
Notable projirress has been made
ID briogio^ about the commercial
utilization of soy bean seed for the
manufacture of oil, meal, and var
ious more or less complex pro-
duts, accordioK to the annual re
port of the Chief of the Bureau
of Plant Industry. The soy bean,
the report states, is well adapted
to the whole cotton belt, an.d in
deed to the whole corn region. In
the cotton belt it promises to be
an important„ element wherever
the acreage of cotton has been re
duced. The immature bean seeds
make a very delicious vegetable
and are canned with ease. Inas
much as soy beans can be more
cheaply produced than any other
bean see, it is believed that there
is a large field for the canning of
green soy beans. Efforts are now
being made to induce canning
factories to put the product on the
market. In the growing of the
soy bean and in manufacturing
products there from the United
States can successfully compete
with the Orient.

Danger Si^al
If the fire bell should ring would you
run and stop it or go and help to put
ont the fire? It is much the same way
with a cough. A cough is a danger
signal as mnch as a fire bell. You
should no more try to suppress it than
to stop a fire bell when it is ringing
but should cure the disease that causes
the coughing. This can nearly always
be done by taking Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy. Many have used it with the
most beneficial results It is especially
valuable for the persistent cough that
so often follows a bad cold or an attack
of the grip. Mrs. Thomas Beeching;
Andrews, Ind., writes: “During the
winter my husband takes cold eaaly
and coughs and coughs. Chamberlain’s
Ck)ugh Remedy is the best medicine for
breaking up these attacks and you can
not get him to take any other.” Ob
tainable everywhere.

Morganton Man Faced Three Wives
MorgantoB, Dec. 14.—^James
Poteat, a well known young man,
and at one time cheif of police,
faced three ^ pretty wives in the
Superior Court-this week on trial
for marrying at least two more
women than the law allows, and
was quickly found guilty and re
ceived a sentence of one year on
the chaingang from Judge Fergu
son.
Poteat’s last adventure was in
Concord where he married the
daughter of a well-to-do citizen
aod it was the new bride’s suspi
cion of his frequent trips to Mor
ganton that led to his, undoing.
His plea in defence was that he
had married one of the trio in
South Carolina under the contract
law and that North Carolina
couldn’t recognize the South Ca)‘o-
lina laws at that time as legal in
North Carolina. Also that another
wife had secured a divorce, but he
failed to convince the jury and
will in a few days join the gang.
