At a public sale held recently by government forestry authorities here over $2,000 was realized upon 200 acres of standing timber near Old Fort. Tbe plans of tbe forest ry service contemplate the sale of standing timber from time to time in various portions of their hold ings in such a manner as to result in the uniformity of the cut. The tract under consideration at Old Fort was composed largely of hardwoods with very little pine along the ridges. Forest experts stamp each tree that is to be cut, and conservative methods are em- ployed in getting out the timber so as not to endanger the young growth. Asheville Citizen. As usual the census enumerators have discovered people who are distinguished for one odd reason or another. In Los Angeles, Cal ifornia, they found a negro woman one hundred and fifteen years old who had been sold as a slave fifteen times. In a small Massachusetts town they found a family of eleven children, each of whom was born in a different state in the Union.
