Mrs. A. H. Giles Dies Suddenly. im rs. Clara Louisa Giles, wife Mr. A. H. Giles, of Marion, died suddenly of heart failure at her home on Main street Wednesday morning of last week. The funeral services were con ducted at the home on Thursday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. W. L. Hutchins, assisted by Rev. J. C. Story, pastor of the Presby terian church, and Rev. Parker Holmes, presiding elder of the Marion district. A large number of friends attended the funeral and accompanied the remains to the grave side in Oak Grove cemetery. The floral tributes were many and beautiful, coming from different sections of the State. Mrs. Giles is survived by her husband and five children: Isaac V., assistant professor in chemistry at the University of North Caro lina; Miss Ruby, teacher in the Kinston graded schools; Unas. H., Viola, and. Brownie, of Marion. Mrs. Giles was an ideal- wrte, a devoted mother, and a neighbor to all. A poem by L. Virginia French typifies her life: "Baried today, the true and loving mother, The heart that beat responsive to onr own; We-start, we pause, we gaze at one an other. Then wondering, ask: 'Can she indeed be gone?' Vanished the gentle smile by which she won us, Ever to dutv's path: and must we say, Of all the love and truth she lavished on us, We buried it today? Buried today, the kind and generous neighbor. Never forgetful of those counsels sweet That comfort stricken ones, and with her labor Smothed the path for other tired feet; Aiding through every dark and painful hour. Soothing with .soft and unobtrusive swav; And must we say of all this gentle power; We buried it today? Buried today the noble hearted woman Living by that high faith to angels eiven; Blendine in all her life the truly human With something less of earth and more of heaven. Faithful and steadfast in her consecra tions To dntv. striving meekly to obey, And can we say of this grand com mendation ; We buried it today? Not so, not so! Though sorrowing and lnnelv. We comprehend" her pure and perfect We understand the life that served God only. Looking to Him above for its release; And when Death's gentle summons w surrender Wo so Rweetlv answered, let none say, Of such example lofty, simple, tender We buried it today ? Not so, not sot When such a lovely story As that of her sweet life on earth appears It crowns all womanhood with gentte irlorv. And when it fades there is no room for t o Am. The good her life has wrought will rrish never. And though the worker may be laid a wav To her last rest, the work remains for- 20 We are showing a big assortment of SPRING GOODS -of all kinds.
