P Chase left Friday for Macon, Ga . , where she will spend some time witn her daugh ter. Mrs M. M. The Ladies Aid Society of the : Methodist church will meet this (Thursday) afternoon at 3 o'clock with Mrs. D. E. Hudgins. Mrs. A. D. Stoner and children, of Biltmore, have returned home after a visit to the former's pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. G. VV. Craw- ' ford. i The Woman's C'ub will not hold its regular meeting on Octo ber 21st with Mrs. (t. S. Kirby, SOCIAL AFFAIRS Mrs. B. Li. Ashworth was hostess Thursday afternoon from four to six o'clock to the Dixie Club, hon oring her three guests, Mrs. D. S. Thomas, of Statesville; Mrs. C. C. McBrayer, of Shelby, and Mrs. A. D. Stoner, of Biltmore. The occasion was one. of the most charming social affairs of the autumn events. Mrs. Ashworth's beautiful rooms were bright with cut flowers and autumn leaves. Nine tables were arranged for 108 and the game was played with enthusiasm for an hour and a half, after which a three-course salad luncheon was served. Mrs. Ashworth was as sisted in serving by Mrs. VV. T. Morgan, Miss Ellen Crawford, Mrs. C. S. Briggs, Mrs. VV. R Chambers and Mrs. J. L. Morgan. On last Thursday afternoon the Ladies Aid Society of the Metho dist church entertained for Mrs. Parker Holmes at the home of Mrs J. E. Decker. Quite a num ber of members wore present, and all thoroughly enjoyed the de lightful piano and victrola selec tions by Mrs. Decker and Miss Decker. A special feature was the "good wishes" written upon cards by each member and ex changed, to be, read by the differ ent ladies. These were tender ex pressions evincing the loving re gard in which Mrs. Holmes is held. Dainty refreshments were served. Potted plants and exquisite cut flowers decorated the hall, parlor and dining room, adding charm to the occasion. As a parting gift, Mrs D. E. Hudgins, president of the Aid Society, presented Mrs. Holmes with a beautiful amethyst pin. The ladn-s will greatly miss Mrs. Holmes as a co-worker and friend . The young people of both societies spent the eveni ng in vieing with each other iu games and contests. Misses Gaye Brown. Zula Stene and Betty Bowman, the most suc cessful in the "Floral Love Tale" contest, were the recepients of a box of Hersheys. After enjoying a bountiful service of sandwiches, ice cream and cake, all separated declaring the Bonerians to be most excellent hosts. MINISTERS LEAVE FOR CONFERENCE. The following local ministers left the first of the week for Salis bury to attend the annual meeting of the Western North Carolina conference which convened there yesterday. Rev.
