' There are now 33 credit unions in the state, with a total membership of 1,387. In view of the presnt situ ation. in the money market and with declining 'prices, the Division of Mark ets expect an increased interest in credit unions wnich provide funds for farmers operating small farms. ROBBERS THROW SAFE OFF CAR; RECOVERED Columbia, S. C, Nov. 11. The express messenger's safe on train No. 36, Choarlotte division of the Southern railway was thrown off at Sharpe, a station about 15 miles from Columbia today by train f rob bers, who held up the messenger. The safe contained -about" $16,000. Before the bandits could get back to the place where the safe was thrown off, the crew of a freight train pass ing the spot recovered the safe. JUDGE MANNING WILL AID IN DRAFTING ROAD BILL Charlotte, Nov. 10. -Judge James S. Manning, re-elected last week as attorney general for North Carolina, and a former justice of the North Carolina supreme court, has agreed to assist the legislative committee of the Citizens' highway association of Nort hCarolina in drafting the bill tq provide means of constructing a statewide system of hard surfaced lighways in the state, to be present ed to the general assembly in Janu ary, Colonel T. L. Kirkpatrick, chair man, announced today. Tlje importance of this bill, which is intended to provide sumcient funds for building a hard surfaced system inter-corfnecting every county seat and principal town of North Carolina, is considered so important that Colonel Kirkpatrick decided to ask Judge Manning, a man familiar with the law and the requirements, to assist the committee he has al ready named to draw the bill.
