Burton , one of . the rtawn's- most be loved citizens, had passed away, at ,7 o'clock, a. m. . Notwithstanding the fact that "Mr. Burton's -health had fceen poor for more than, a year his death came as a shock. ; He had been at his post . as cashier of the Mer chants & Farmers Bank. Saturday, tand was on the streets during y the . same day! He was taken seriously all. Monday and grew worse until his suffering was relieved in death. The body was prepared f of burial and taken to Goldsbdro" Wednesday afternoon, accompanied by the t im mediate family relatives" and friends. A short funeral, service was held at Sthe home, and the concluding ser- -?rices were held at Golclsboro. Mr. Burton was -a native of Vir ginia, but spent most - qf his life in SJbrth . Carolina. DAVIS DIES AT HOME OE: HER DAUGHTER The many friends, of - Mrs. B. P. Davis were greatly shocked Saturday to learn that she had passed :- away r at 3:30 p. m. Saturday at . the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Britton, in - Johnson City, . Tenn: - Mrs. ADa vis underwent anopera- about three, weeks ago, but hot- Withstanding the fact that her con dition, was rather critical her death Was unexpected. -1 1 The body, was, brought to Marion Sunday afternoon and was carried to the home' of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Kirby, where the funeral services were held Monday at 10" o'clock a. m.,.. conducted by .Rev. J. T. Bowden, in the absence of the pastor xf the deceased, Rev. J. P. H,ipps, who was in High Point in attendance upon the annual ..conference of" the Methodist Church. At the, funeral was a large' number of relatives and friends of the deceased. The floral tributes were beautiful and gave testimony to the high esteem in . which &f rs. Davis was held in her home town. The body was laid to rest at Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs.. Davis was married twice; first, to the late Dan F. Kirby, who died several years ago. She Was married about hree years ago to Mr. B. P. Davis, of Marion.
