A TRIAL IS ALL WE ASK NEW MARRIAGE LICENSE LAW EFFECTIVB JULY 1 Raleigh, June 23.— Copies of the I new law regrulating the issuing of marriage licenses in North Carolina have been sent clerks of Superior courts all over the state by the secre tary of state. The new regulation will be eflFective July 1. Under terms of the new bill appli cation for a marriage license* must be filed with the register of deeds five days before the license can be is- { sued if the parties are under 21 years of age. The act, however, will ! not apply to marriages publicly an-; I nounced through the press at least j five days before the proposed wed- j ding. I Under certain conditions, however, | the clerk of Superior court of the i county in which the marriage is to occur can allow the issuance without I five days notice. LIGHTNING KILLS YOUTH ON FRONT PORCH OF HOME j North Wilkesboro, June 19.—T. i B. Shumate, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shumate of this county, was kiled instantly by lightning late Tuesday. The boy was seated on the front porch of his father's home when killed. The flash of lightining structkq ash The flash of lightning struck first on the back porch, burning a hole through the floor there and another through the kitchen floor, before it zigzagged to the front porch. Mr. and Mrs. Shumate and six children were at home at the time, but only the boy, Travis, was injured. NEW NAME IS GIVEN REFUGE ON MOUNTAIN In the future the game refuge on Mt. Mitchell will be known as the Mt. Mitchell State Game Refuge and j its former name of Daniel Boone ^ State Game Refuge will be applied {to the new preserve on Grandfather mountain in Avery and Caldwell counties, it was announced recently by J. G. K. McClure, Jr., of the state board of conservation and de velopment. i LA WING REUNION TO BE j FIRST SUNDAY IN JULY There will be a reunion of the !
