Southern Public Utilities Company REPORT MADE ON STATE FINANCES Total Indebtedness Is Ovei 180 Millions, Figures Show; | $86,539.95 in General Fund Raleigh, Nov. 23.—Of the $5,335, 080.21 in the state treasury on Octo ber 31, only $86,539.95 represented the amount in the general fund, the combined statement of auditor and .'treasurer released today showed. ■ The greater portion of the am | ount, $3,105,539.69 was listed in the highway and other special funds, (while outstanding highway obliga tions totaled $587,947.04; outstand ing warrants $269,316.77 and dis bursing accounts $1,285,316.77. Cash disbursements from the gen eral fund during the October were shown as $3,290,032.75. The cash balance and receipts for the month were $3,374,622.70 of which more than $2,500,000 represented receipts There was a cash balance of $3, 151,675.02 in the highway fund at the beginning of October and re ceipts for the month were $2,050, 244.63, making balance and receipts $5,201,919.65. Warrant disburse ments totaled only $1,508,378.92 and $587,947.04 was put aside as obligated cash to meet bond interest. Total general fund disbursements for the fiscal year to October 31 were listed at $10,624,697.22, against a •balance and receipts of $10,711,237. 11. Disbursements against the high way fund for the fiscal year to Octo ber 31 were $10,589,661.36 against a balance and receipts of $14,283, 202.09. The state debt October 31 totalled $180,411,371, of.which $7,602,371 represented general fund notes and emergency loan permanent improve ment notes. PIEDMONT SCOUT BOARD ANNUAL MEETING JAN. 10 Shelby, Nov. 26.—One of the best attended and -most inspiring meet ings of the Executive Board of the Piedmont Council, the * Boy Scouts of America, was held at the Hotel Charles on Tuesday night. Novem ber 2'2. Representatives from practi cally every section of the Piedmont area were present and renorts were received showing continued progress in the development and advancement of every department of the Scout program. The annual meeting of the Council was set for Tuesday night, January 10. n? Gastonia. Hundreds of the outstanding business and pro fessional men of the eleven counties of the Piedmont Council attend this meeting each year and with the in creased interest in the Scout Move ment. officials believe more men will attend than ever before. The membership of the Council now includes 9") active Troop* with a boy membership well over 1,(500, and with the new Troop» being orga nized and recruiting of new mem bers by Scout Troops, it is expected that several hundred additional hoys will be enrolled before the close of the year. Seventy-three courts of honor have been held since the first of the year and more than 4,000 advancement awards have been made. Members of the special "Ten Year" program committee of-, the Council were present at the Board meeting and reports received show that this program is being aggres sively launched in every section of the Council. The purpose of the "Ten Year" program is to enlist at least one out of every four boys and to give them a full four years train ing in the character-forming and citizenship training program of Scouting so that ten years hence one out of every four young men reach ing the age of citizenship will have been a four year trained Scout. MILITARY FUNERAL FOR PRITCHARD McK. HUTCHINS Members of the McDowell Post of the American Legion formed an es cort of honor and fired a salute over the grave of Pritchard McKinley Hutchins, war veteran who died Friday after a short illness at the Marion General Hospital. He had been in bad health for some time time prior to becoming a patient at the hospital a few days before his death. A bugler sounded taps over the grave. The funeral services were conducted at Dysartville Methodist church by Rev. T. B. Hunnicutt and Rev. Mr. Pyatt. Burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Le tha Biggerstaff Hutchins, five chil dren, his mother and several broth i ers and sisters. Ruby Travis of the Taylorsville section of Catawba county raised 102 turkeys as a 4-H club project this year from which she secured a gross return of $205.84. The poults were raised from four hens. Chairman Jones of the house agri | culture committee and Representa tive Rainey of Illinois, the Democrat ic floor leader, were designated by a group of leaders to make arrange ments for formulation of the legisla tion. Confer With Leader Jones and Rainey conferred with Mr. Roosevelt last night to obtain his views and the Texas Democrat was summoned again today. Later, Speaker Garner, the vice-president i elect said: "We will seek enactment of a ; farm relief measure at the coming session, which we hope will really bring relief. Both the Republican and Democratic platforms call for farm relief, and we hope to make it a non-partisan bill and obtain the | support of the Republicans." What a Thrill!
