This meeting, the Birth-' day Gift meeting, will feature the two-fold objective of Brazilian j Mission work and the American Bible Society. Buffet Dinner At Morris Home | Members of the Francis Marion' club entertained exhibitors and vis-! itors of the Horse Show with a din-' ner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. | L. Morris last Saturday. A buffet dinner was served on1 the lawn to about 125 guests. Westmore land of Marion announce the mar riage of their daughter, Margaret Gibbs, to Thomas F. Gibson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl S. Gibson, also of Marion. The marriage was solem nized October 3, in York, S. C. Mrs. Gibson was graduated from Meredith college, Raleigh, in Febru ary, and since that time has held a! position as Secretary and Reception ist at the Taylor Food Company. Coone, who has been a patient in Memorial Hospital, Charlotte, for the past week, was reported improving yesterday. o Mrs. Fred Washburn, who has been seriously ill at the Marion Hos pital for the past several days, was reported improving yesterday. o Mrs. H. L. Garris and little daughter, Polly, of Fort Bragg are visiting Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Hairr while Captain Garris is engaged in Maneuvers now in progress at Camp Mackall. o Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Sain attend ed the Ford Dealers convention in Pinehurst, Monday through Wed nesday of this week. Sain is a di rector of the Convention. o Rev. Albert P. Mack, Wayne Jarrett and Miss Mildred Jarrett attended a concert presented by the North Carolina Symphony or chestra in Morganton last Wednes day evening. Benefit Movie The Marion Junior Woman's club realized $70 from the Benefit Mov ie sponsored last Saturday in the interest of Cancer Control. The use of the theatre was contri buted by the Marion Theatre and C. L. Self, operator, contributed his time. Musical Program j Is Featured At Kiwanis Club The Marion Kiwanis Club held its regular weekly meeting in the com munity building Tuesday night. Roy W. Davis, president, presided, and T. R. Cline had. charge of the program. The club was entertained by the Utah Centennial Quartet under the auspices of Thfe Church of Junior Latter Day Saints. The music was chosen so as to depict the activities of the pioneer days in the settling of the west. Additional color was added to the selections by several romantic numbers, as well as a se lection of folk songs of the Old South. An announcement was made that the hymn singing, which was sched uled for last night at the First Bap tist Church, was postponed and would be given at a later date. An other announcement was made that due to conflicts with the high school commencement program, Ladies Night, which was previously sched uled for June 7, would be held on June 14. In a short business session prior to the program, Immediate Past Preident Vernon Eckerd, and S. R. Perkins, vice president, were elect ed delegates to the International Convention, which will be held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, June 19 through June 26. Sunday, May 29 Will Be 4-H Sunday In This County 4-H Club Church Sunday will be observed May 29 at Glenwood Me thodist church, Miss Ruby Lea Kiser, assistant county home dem onstration agent, said Monday. Members of 4-H clubs in the county will participate in the morn ing worship service at 11 a. m. Other 4-H youths present will be assigned to a reserved section in the church auditorium. Naval Reservists To Have Dinner Friday Evening There will be a Dutch Supper meeting of all Naval Reservists re siding in the Marion area- at the Sunset Grill, Friday evening, May 20, at 7:30. Purpose of this meet ing is to form a composite volun teer Naval Reserve unit in Marion. LCDR E. H. Forrest, USN, In spector Instructor for the Asheville Spartanburg Area will discuss the purpose and advantages of the Na val Reserve and the new Naval Re serve Retirement program. A tech nicolor movie outlined "Life at Sea" will be shown. This meeting is open to all Na val Reservists or Naval Veterans, officers and enlisted personnel. Home Coming At Providence Home Coming services will be held at Providence church Sunday, May 22. The Rev. H. M. Wellman, pastor, will have charge of the mor ning service. Dinner will be served on the church grounds. The after noon service will consist of a group singing: and quartetts. Everyone is invited to come and bring a basket of food and spend the day.
