In the mail last Monday was a box containing a necktie, upon which, in the latest decor ated fashion, was emblazoned the seal of the Presbyterian Church A merchant friend in a nearby city enclosed his card with a notation saying he thought I would like to wear it. He must have known the ensignia of Presbyterian Junior College is that seal of the church sur rounded by a scroll with the name of the college on it. The seal is interesting. At the top is a star, symbolizing Jesus Christ, “the root and off spring of David, the bright morning star” (Rev. 22:16) of prophetic hope. Whose star heralded His coming into the world. (Mat thew 2:2). The dove above the shield is the Holy Spirit of God, coming down from above to bless and guide His people. (John 1:32, Mark 1:10, Matt. 3:16). The lamp burning is the Light of the World, for the light shineth in the darkness and the darkness has never put it out. (John 1:5). The burning bush (Exodus 3: 2-4) represents God’s presence in the world in the Church, which is ever burning itself out in service and sacrifice, yet is never consumed. The long re cords of persecutions has never killed the Church. The laurel wreath proclaims the victory and final triumph of the Church as the agency of truth and love. The Latin quotation “ Lux lucit. in tenebris” is translated “Let the light shine in darkness.” TOWN OF MAXTON NOTICE TO TAX PAYERS By Order of The Board of Commissioners of the Town of Maxton and by Authority vested in me by the laws of the State of North Carolina, I will advertise on August IX, 1953, the unpaid taxes due the Town of Maxton on Real Estate, for sale on September 8, 1953.
