IIALK. WAS PACKED.
Villager Crowd to nee Old-Time
Southern Cake Yt'alk.
There may be truth in the statement
that interest in the cake walk is waning
generally speaking, among the colored
people, but the attendance at the cake
walk in the Village Hall, Monday even
ing, was conclusive proof that this is not
true of Northeners. Long before the
hour set for opening, the Hall was filled
to overflowing and many stood during
the entire performance. The evening as
a whole was an interesting and satisfac
tory one. Keen interest was manifested
and applause was liberally bestowed.
The program opened with a old-time
quadrille, and was followed by buck and
wing dancing. The cake walk then be
gan, with "Professor" Atwater as the
leader. The couples were evenly match
ed, and it was only after considerable
deliberation that the judges were able to
make the awards.
The judges were not selected with any
especial regard to fitness, but rather be
cause the3r were the only ones who
would consent to serve. Their names
may be secured from the couples who
did not get the first prize.
