The fifth event of the winter's pro
gram of stated handicap golf fixtures
played Monday, for the magnificent II.
W. Priest trophies, offered for the best
net and best gross score, drew a large
field and developed into an interesting
contest. W. C. Chick, of Boston,
(scratch), won the gross score cup,
with eighty-four, and I. C, Bates Dana,
of New York City, (18), the net score
cup, with seventy-three. Three were
tied with net score of seventy-seven,
and the first fifteen handed in cards
from eighty-four down. The day was
perfect with many onlookers on the
course.

twice over. Only two clubs were used,
the driver and putter; the driver being
used for putting and the putter for driv
ing. Miss Carrie Checkj of East Orange,
N. J., won with eighty-two, forty-two
out and forty in, with Roy Keith, of
Watertown, Mass., second, with eighty
five, forty-six out and thirty-nine in,

Ping-Pong Tournament Entertains Both
Contestants and Onlookers.

A ping-pong tournament at The Caro
lina, Friday afternoon, made a dull day
bright, furnishing lively sport for the
contestants and entertainment for a
goodly company of onlookers. Mr.
Leroy R. Clarke of New York City, won
the men's trophy and Miss Smith of
Portland, Me., the women's prize.
The event was arranged by Mr. Roy S.
Durstine and Miss Florence Durstine of
New York City, who proved themselves
capable managers and gracious hosts.
There were events for men and women
with prizes in each class. In the prelim
inary rounds one set without deuce sets
was played, and in the finals the best
two out of three sets, with deuce sets.

Open Handicap Event.
Two golf tournaments are scheduled
for tomorrow, and a third and special
event is a possibility. The first of the
stated fixtures, is a men's tournament
for The Berkshire cup, open to all who
have never played golf previous to Jan
uary 1, 1902. The Tufts' cups are offer
ed in the women's event, for the best net
and best gross scores.
