A NEW COURSE RECORD !
F. C. Reynolds of Orange, N. J., Sets a
Fast Pace for Amateurs.
A It ( cord Breaking- It omul of Seventy-Five,
Made in Play with F. T.
Bailey Previous Score.
F. C. Reynolds, of the Essex County
Country Club, Orange, N. J., broke the
amateur golf record for the Pinehurst
course, Monday, in a match with F. J.
Bailey, of Chicago, reducing it from
seventy-six to seventy-five, thirty-three
out and forty-two in, with an eight on
the fourteenth hole, Mr. Reynolds'
score going out, is one of the best ever
made here, and live under bogey. Had
he played in the same form coming in,
he would without question, have broken
the professional record of seventjr-two,
thirty-five out, and thirty-seven in, made
by professional Donald Ross at the be
ginning of the present season.
The best previous record of the course
was seventy-six, thirty-seven out and
forty-one in , made by C. II. Bartlett, of
Westfield, Mass., last March. J. G.
Thorpe, of Boston, and E. A. Freeman,
of Montclair, N, J., both hold records
for seventy-seven.
A peculiar coincidence is found in the
fact that the record breaking scores of
Mr. Reynolds and Mr. Bartlett were
made practically a year apart, Mr. Bart
lett's record being made Tuesday, March
11th, and Mr, Reynolds', Monday, March
9th.
Mr. Reynolds' detailed score is as fol
lows :
Out 43343462 433
In 53548454 44275
