The mythical prince who fell in love with the pretty and likewise mystical Cinderilla, because she wore dainty slip pers, was typical of mankind and ever since his time, and perhaps before, men have depended more or less, in the selec tion of partners, some of them for life, upon this feature. Coquettisli woman kind has always made much of this knowledge, and as a natural consequence have come the various irresistable con ceptions seen today in woman's footwear of which the high French heel, the enor mous bows and the brilliant buckles are notable examples. In view of all this it was but natural that the Cinderilla party at The Berk shire, Friday evening, should prove the most delightful of the many informal social pleasures which have taken place at this popular hotel this season. The men were appealed to in a telling way ; they were n...dc to forget that they had headacl.es, were tired from playing golf all day, or had to see a man, and the re sult was .in attendance that taxed the capacity of the parlors, and an interest which made the evening an exceptionally enjoyable one. Forty-two couples par ticipated. The details of the affair were shroud ed in mystery, but from time to time in formation leaked out and was eagerly gathered in, and consequently, when the men were mysteriously ushered into one room they had an inkling of what was to take place. In groups of six they were taken across the parlor to the curtained doorway beneath which peeped forth six pairs of feet arrayed, as only a woman's foot can be arrayed when she knows it is to be the object of attention. Of course it was a difficult position for the men because every pair of the dainty slippers displayed was simply faultless, but one by one the slippered feet were touched and the owners stepped forth to become partners for the evening in progressive euchre. Dainty score cards were distributed, slippers for the men and embossed cards for the women, and at the close of play the winners came forward according to their scores, to each receive from the fairy Godmother, (Miss Chapman of Am herst, N, S.) a souvenir which was brought forth from the mysterious depths of an enormous pumpkin; the identical pumpkin that was transformed into a chariot for Cinderilla long, long ago, Some regret was at first expressed at the inability of the original fairy God mother to be present, but later it was the unanimous opinion that Miss Chapman had filled the roll most graciously. A tempting lunch served on daintily laid tables, bon bons, salted nuts, ices and cake, brought the evening to a cloe. The affair was arranged with faultless care by a committee consisting of Mrs. Annie'L. Hughes, New York city ; Miss Brackett, Boston ; Mrs, A. T. Leavitt, Wollaston, Mass, ; Mrs. A. L, Goodrich, Wollaston, Mass. ; Mrs. E. B. Lake, Fall River, Mass., and Miss Grace Hutching son, Burlington, Vt., assisted by Mrs. Byron A. Stone of Mohawk, N, Y., who made the table covers and SQUvenir score cards. The sixth event in the winter's stated program of trap shooting events, fifty single and twenty double targets, for the splendid "Championship" or Pine hurst trophy, was a repetition of the hard fought contests which have come to be the rule in these weekly tournaments. C. II. Stanley of Cleveland, 0., who shot from scratch, won with sixty-three, with II. Nelson Burroughs, of Philadelphia, who had a handicap of twelve, a close second in sixty. Stanley was shooting in great form, making a record score for the season on his singles, forty-eight out of fifty. On doubles he broke fifteen. Burroughs was also in good form, breaking thirty nine out of his fifty singles and twelve doubles. On his handicap allowance he broke seven out of eight singles, and two out of four doubles. The detailed scores of the leaders were as follows: Stanley 1111111111111110111111111 24 1111110111111111111111111 2448 1011111011101110110 1 15 G3 Burroughs. 1010010110111111110111111 19 1111110111110101110111011 20-1) 01111110111010101000 12 lldp., singles, 11110111 7 Doubles, 1010 2 GO Cady 1111111111111111101110111 23 1111111011111011101010101 1042 11100101011110111100 13 lldp., singles, 011 2 Doubles, Lard. 1111110101110111110111111 21 1100011011110111101111111 1940 10101011101001110011 1252 Gildersleeve broke twenty-nine singles, Parshall twenty-eight, Randolph twenty five, and Randolph, Jr., twenty-three; but they did not shoot their handicap allowance, or their doubles.
