Since it was built in 1895, it has been necessary to enlarge it several times to meet the constantly increasing demand. The interior is elegant, cheerful and tasteful. No modern con venience is lacking. There are bath rooms, electric lights, steam heat and open fireplaces. There is a call bell in every room, and all beds are furnished with best hair mattresses. An orchestra furnishes fine concerts daily, and also provides for dancing. The cuisine is unsurpassed. The waitresses are all white girls from the North. The various hotels in the Pinehurst system have for ten days past, been turning away hundreds of applications for accommodations, and it has been a diilicult problem to provide for those who have come. The coming week, however, will note a few changes, and make room for many who are upon the waiting lists. The weather has been particularly delightful and an early spring is assured. At The Carolina. The list of arrivals at The Carolina during the past week has surpassed all records. Prominent among them are many who come for return visits. Mr. James Gayley, of New York city, acting president of the United States Steel Corporation, is here for a return visit. Mr. and Mrs. S. II. Moore of New York city, come for their first visit to Pinehurst. Mr. Moore is proprietor of the Ladies World. Judge William C. Waite, of Medford, Mass., is a recent arrival. Mr. and Mrs. George C. Dutton, Miss Gertrude Dutton and maid of Boston, joined Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Dutton and Mrs. Cora D. Little, Monday for the bal ance of the season. Mr. Dutton is an enthusiastic golfer and generally regard ed as one of the "possibilities'' in the coming Championship Tournament. Mrs. J. C. Burrows, of Kalamazoo, Mich., wife of Senator Burrows, and Mr. II. N. Peck, of Minneapolis, Minn., were the guests of Mrs. Geo. C. McNeir, during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Walter B. Duffy and Miss Duffy, of Rochester, N. Y., are late arrivals. Mr, Edward Conner, of Philadelphia, is back for the second visit of the season, Mr. and Mrs. J Howell Jones, of New York citv, made their second visit this season, during ihe week. Mr. George S. Evans, of New Y'oik city, joined Mrs. Evans during the week. Mr. C. F, Fairbanks, of Boston, joins Mrs. Fairbanks. General Manager, C. W. Ackert, of the Southern Railway, with Mrs. Ackert, were visitors during the week. Rev. Dr, and Mrs. R. R. Booth of New York city, are here for a months visit. They come from a visit in Washington, making The Grafton their headquarters while there. Mr. C. II. Gattis, traveling passenger agent of the Seaboard Air Line Railway, is again located here, for the season, to look after the needs of patrons of this road.
