'TT'IIE golf season here is to be given
an exceptionally brilliant and early
opening with a special scratch match
play tournament, open to all amateurs
the United North and South Amateur
Championship Tournament to be held
here in April.
Play will begin Wednesday with two
eighteen hole, medal play, scratch, qual
ifying rounds, for qualification as fol
lows :
BEST SIXTEEN FOR PINEHURST CUP.
SECOND SIXTEEN FOR CAROLINA CUP.
THIRD SIXTEEN FOR HOLLY INN CUP.
FOURTH SIXTEEN FOR BERKSHIRE CUP.
Note. If more than sixty-four play
ers take part, additional cups will be
presented for each additional sixteen.
A gold medal will be given for the
lowest score in the preliminary round.
offered for the best net score and a silver
medal for the second best. A gold
medal will be presented for the best
gross score. No player, however, can
take both the best net and best gross
score prizes. All entrants must state
their club handicap.
ENTERTAINMENT PLANS.
The Management of the Village is
making special plans for the entertain
ment of the visitors, and numerous very
pleasant informal social features will be
provided, the most important of which
will be a hop at The Holly Inn.

ing Committee. Play will begin Wednes
day, December 30th, and continue
through Saturday, January 2nd.
Prominent players from many parts
of the country will participate including
Finlay S. Douglas, John Moller, Jr., W.
J. Travis, Jasper Lynch, John M. Ward,
George T. Brokaw, and many others.
The event will unquestionably take its
place as the most important of the tour
naments of the early winter season, and
will rank second in importance only to

event was open to men and women, with
cups for the best net scores made by each.
Mrs. J. Henry Hentz, Jr., of Philadel
phia, playing with a handicap of forty
nine, won the women's trophy with a
net score of eighty-two. Miss S. C.
