Guests at The Berkshire are Enjoying- Social JPleasure. Manager J. A. Sherrard of The Berk shire, has only limited accommodations to offer the many applicants for rooms and he says the most successful season in the history of the house is assured. Social pleasures have been a feature of the week. AMONG THE GUESTS. Mrs. Henrietta Foster and Miss II. F. Ziegler of Pittsburg, Pa., are here for the season. , Miss I. R. Steel and M, A. Steel of Port Deposit, Md., come for a return visit and the winter. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers of Round Lake, N. V., are spending their third season here. Mr. Rogers is proprietor of the VVentworth at Round Lake. Mr, and Mrs. James E. Leach, Miss Elizabeth F. Leach and Miss Catherine C. Leach of Brookline, Mass., come for a long sojourn. Mr and Mrs. S. P. Blount and child of Chicago, are here to remain through February. Mr. and Mrs. S. VV. Williams of New London, Ct., are here to remain an in definite period. Mr. H. H. Cowan of Pittsburg, is visit ing Mr. Anderson. Mr. Noyes D. Clark of Westville, Ct., has gone after a short visit with his father. Mrs. Emily D. Wood and Miss Sophia L. Martin of New York, are spending several weeks here. Mr, J. J. Mack, Mrs. James Gear and Miss Luella Gear of New York ; Mr. E. W. Merrill, Mr. E. W. Merrill, Jr., and Mr. C. S. Aldin of Rochester, N. Y., were recent visitors. A PUTTING CONTEST. A putting contest arranged by Mr, D. N. Clark of Westville, Ct., and Miss Alice Taggart of New York, provided a pleasant evening during the week, the guests generally participating. Mr. R. C. Lincoln of Hartford, Ct., and Miss Taggart were the prize winners. THE WEEKLY CARD PARTY. A hearU party provided an enjoyable evening at The Berkshire Tuesday even ing. Miss I. R. Steel of Port Deposit, Md., was the winner of the womens first prize and Mrs. S. P. Blount of Chicago, the second, Mrs. E, C. Knickerbocker of New York, took the consolation. The first mens prize went to Mr. C. P. Welle, Tovvanda, Pa., the second to Mr. C. P. Hayward, and the consolation to Mrs. E. Pitman, both of Brooklyn, N. Y Stop-over at Washing-ton. Pinehurst's guests will find a stop over at Washington a very pleasant inci dent of the trip either to or from the Village from the North, and the Hotel Grafton, Connecticut Avenue, a most comfortable stopping place. HOTABIE ADDITIONS. Week Bring many Guests to The Harvard. The week has made notable additions to the guests at The Harvard, many of whom come to remain throughout the winter. Mrs. Walter Gardner and Miss Mabel Gardner of New York, join Mr. Gardner for an extended stay. Mrs. Gardner is a striking brunette who is much admired. Mrs. Robert A. Reid and Miss Harriet G. Reed of Newton, Mass., are among the guests. Mrs. Reid is the wife of one of Newton's best known physicians, Mrs. M. B. Cornell of New York and Mrs. E. B. Hoyt, nurse and child of Bridgeport, Conn., are here for an ex tended sojourn. Mrs. Henrietta B. Wills of Mt. Holly, N. J., and Mrs. Henry C. Walcott of Harrington, Del., come for an extended visit. Mrs. James Gear and Miss Luella Gear of New York, are among the guests. Mr. and Mrs. George E. Jewell of Holderness, N. II., were visitors during the week. Mr. Jewell will manage the Ben Mere Inn at Sunapee, N. II., next summer. Dr. J. W. Wright of Bridgeport, Conn., and a leading physician in that city, is here for "a short visit. Dr. Wright has long been un enthusiastic admirer of Pinehurst. Mr. William E. Roades of Morristown, N. J., joins Mr. Allen. Mr. J. J, Nagle is here for the winter. Mr. Nagle is a well-known Boston law yer, who has formerly visited Jamaica. He is delighted with his first impressions of Pinehurst. Mr. II. G. Lippincott of Philadelphia, was a visitor during the week. AT OLD POOI COJIFOllT. Dinner Parties are Much in Vog-ue many Guests Fortress Monroe, Va., Feb. 10 Dinner parties are much in vogue among the guests at The Chamberlin. One of the prettiest of these affairs was given recently by Mrs. Frances S. Brown to Miss House of Troy, N. Y., and Miss Wise, daughter of Admiral Wise. Among the guests was Mr. Frank C. Jewell, Mr. Dan T. Moore, Mr. Arthur F. Cassell and Mr. Henry B. Clark, all of the U. S. Army. In the Fort, Mrs. Townsley, wife of Captain Clarence P, Townsley, enter tained the Ladies Lunch Club, and Mrs. Henry C. Davis gave a tea for Mrs. Herbert Slocum and Mrs. Beverly Dunn, who are completing short visits. Mrs. Clarence B. Smith entertained at tea recently the Misses Humphreys of Washington, D. C, Mrs. Albert S. Cum ming gave a tea to Miss Virginia Wise, and Mrs. John Kimberly gave a card party to a select party of friends. The drills, dress parade, guard mount, etc., are a constant source of interest to visitors, and the music on these occa sions is much enjoyed.
