TIN WHISTLE CHAMPIONSHIP
M. C. ParsM Defeats F. J. Bailey
in Final Match Play Round.
Clowe Contest from Start to FinUli
for Very Artistic Trophies
of Silver and Gold.
A SPECIAL golf feature of the week
which attracted much attention,
was the lirst annual handicap "club
championship" of the Tin Whistles. A
series of close contests led up to the
final round between the President, Fred.
J. Bailey of the Kearsarge Golf Club,
North Conway, N. II., and the Club
Captain, Marshall C. Parshall of the
Warren Golf Club, Parshall winning by
a score of one up.
The trophies were artistic Pinehurst
Golf Club seal watch fobs, hammered
silver and gold for the winner, and a
hammered silver and bronze for the runner-up.
The event was distinctly "Tin Whis
tle" in that partners were drawn for at
the close of each round instead of fol
lowing out the usual manner.

SWEETHEARTS AND WIVES
Saturday's Golf Tea is Where they Reign
Supreme.
Young: and Old Yield to Influence
of Sunshine, Joyousness, Good
Cheer and Sweet Music.
SATURDAY is the day of sweet
hearts and wives, and the visitors
who would see Pinehurst at its best
should attend an afternoon tea at the
Golf Club House, seek a sunshiney cor
ner on the balcony, and from this in
comparable vantage point, observe Van
ity Fair as she leads the merry throng
past.
Merry faces and sunny smiles there
are everywhere; here a group of chat
tering girls are exchanging gossip;
there an aged couple are enjoying a sec
ond honeymoon ; further on a bride and
groom of younger years are standing,
irreproachable in manners and raiment,
oblivious to all but their happiness, even
overlooking the delicious flirtation which
is in progress on a settle near-by.
From under straw hats friends from the
South smile greetings to friends from
the North, who, though beginning to
thaw, have not yet forgotten the terrors
of ice and snow.
Golfing girls and golfing boys are
hatless, coatless, bronzed and happy;
pictures of health and vitality.
And all about tea is being sipped and
dainty sandwiches nibbled while the
laughter of merry, romping children
rises above the hum of conversation.
And all the while there is music real,
sweet, music; and sunshine, glorious
sunshine; and pure air, invigorating
air; and joyousness, contagious joyous
ness And one is glad to be alive ; glad
to be at Pinehurst !
