Opening- of This Hotel Will he Wel
comed hy IMneliurat'a Guest.
Pinehurst's guests will welcome with
pleasure the announcement of the re
opening of The Yarborough House at
Raleigh N. C, after having been closed
some months undergoing re-making and
re-modernizing. With the splendid ac
commodations which "The New Yarbor
ough" provides, Raleigh is sure to be a
popular side trip for visitors here, and
with this end in view the Management
of the hotel have furnished the house
with the aim to provide comfort for a
"discriminating and appreciative public."
Raleigh is but two hours distant from
Pinehurst and the Seaboard Air Line is
making a special excursion rate of
for the round trip. The through chair
car for the North which leaves the Vil
lage in the morning, offers a most com
fortable way of going, and one may
return on the through sleeper which
leaches here during the evening.
In addition to being the Capital of the
State, Raleigh is especially interesting
to visitors, and among its various attrac
tions are the many State institutions, the
libraries which are the finest in the
South, several museums containing in
teresting collections, and many beautiful
Southern homes. From a historical
standpoint there is found the birthplace
home and tailor shop of President An
drew Johnson, and the house in which
General .Joseph E. Johnson surrendered
to General William T. Sherman, which
incident closed the civil war.

Miss Maria Westcott of Hopedale,
Mass., gave a Pit party for Miss Hazel
Goodman of North Dana, Mass., at The
Marlborough Friday evening. As usual
the "bulls and bears" got hold of the
market, and no end of excitement re
sulted. IBeneath the Apple Tree.
I sec a maiden, sweet and fair,
Through mists of years long past;
I loved her well, and she loved me
"With a love that could but last.
And every evening I would come,
As fast as fast could lie;
And lind her in the fading light,
P.eneath the apple tree.
And midst the blossoms of the Spring,
J knew that she was there;
With eyes so blue, and hair so bright,
And cheeks so pink and fair.
And way across the .Summer fields,
Beside the Sunset sea;
I ever found her waiting there,
Ueneath the apple tree.
I cared not though the day 'were long,
And hard and lierce the light;
The longest day must end at last,
And turn to glorious night.
For then, in evening's purple light,
I knew that I was free;
To meet my little blue-eyed maid,
Jicneath the apple tree.
'Twas many, many years ago,
My hair lias turned to white;
And she has trod the road all go,
Who climb the steps of light.
And now amid the white-robed throng,
She waits, she waits for me;
As she did those happy days, long gone,
liencath the apple tree.

They Contribute Much to INensure of
Miiinluy Kvening- Concert.
Last Sunday evening's orchestra con
ceit at the Carolina may properly have
been termed a "vocal night'' from the
fact that half the programme was
entrusted to Mrs. Helen F. Wemlr,
soprano, of Pittsburgh, and Mr. Wilford
Russel, Barytone, of London, England.
Both vocalists were happy in a choice
of numbers specially appropriate to the
current Easter Season, and judging from
their hearty and frequent recall, acquit
ted themselves in a manner thoroughly
satisfactory to the large audience present.
Mrs. Wendt has made many friends
during her stay at Pinehurst by her most
agreeable manner and excellent singing,
and the same may be paid of Mr. Kussel.
Their future appearance will be awaited
with pleasure.
