THE NEW SCIIOOLHOUSE. Work upon the new schoolhouse has progressed rapidly and will be com pleted before fall. The new building will be modern in every particular and will include class and recitation rooms, not only for the new Preparatory School established last year, and the Kinder garten begun in January; but the long established Upper and Lower Schools as well. Head Master Aldice G, Warren will again be in charge. in excess of the supply, some sixty in number. GOLF COURSE IMPROVEMENTS. Extensive work leading to the im provement of the golf courses has al ready begun and the aim will be to es tablish turf throughout the fair green as rapidly as possible, by seeding and wa tering during the summer montns. The "short" course will disappear be fore another fall and in its place will be found a long nine-hole course which will compare favorable with the best nine-hole courses in the South. Among the most im portant of this work will be the perfection of the various utility plants, for the ultimate aim is to have these supply the entire needs of the Vil lage; to make Pinehurst complete unto itself. The foundations for the new Dairy are al ready in and the build ing will be completed during the summer. Here the milk and cream will be cared for and prepared for sending out with scrupulous care and dur ing the summer season, surplus cream converted into butter. The raising of fodder and garden vegetables which was so success fully carried on last sum mer, will be continued upon a larger scale this year and with increased results. The Poultry Farm is making rapid growth and becoming more and more an important factor in the food supply problem, and the equipment is being rapidly increased. The Market Garden is giving larger returns each year. AT THE POWER HOUSE. The work is remodelling the Power House and the installation of new ma chinery, much of which has already ar rived, will be completed before fall and the result will be a duplicate equipment throughout which will make it possible ..Js- V' ' -I'll 4 ... GOLF claims many devotees among Pinehurst's Spring guests and Sat urday's "Kicker's Handicap" furnished an interesting contest and close scores. A Sterling golf seal watch fob was offered for the bet net score nearest the unknown bogey. A. J. Ilaggerty of the Bradford Country Club, Pennsylvania, who played with a handicap of forty strokes, won the throphy with a net score of eighty-three. Karl Abbott of Beth lehem, N. H., whose handicap was thirty; George Hayes of Canan daigua, N. Y., and P. 11. Brooks of the Mini k a h d a Country Club, Minnesota, who played with handicaps of forty and five, respectively, were but a single stroke out of the way. THE SCORES. Gr. General repair work throughout the Village, both in the hotels and cottages, will receive its share of attention. As has been the rule in years past, this season's cottagers will be given the re fusal of the cottages for next season. Detailed, information will be sent out in August at which'time positive decisions will be necessary. The increasing demand for these ac commodations and the popularity of the life, will ultimately, lead to a consider able increase in this department. Al ready the applications for apartments during the coming season have been far and other hazards will make the course aiT"exceptionally sporty one and this course in future will do much towards relieving pressure on the eighteen-hole course during the height of the season. F TOURNAMENT PROGRAMS. Special attention will be given to the golf, tennis, trap shooting, target-pistol and other tournament programs and an unusually fine lot of sterling trophies will be offered.
