there remains behind the
memory of one of the
merriest eveniiiiis ever
enjoyed here. From the time the curtains
parted, revealing the gaily-attired and
black-faced aggregation, until they closed
with the last number, there was not a
dull moment and the great company
which taxed the capacity of the music
room of The Holly Inn, laughed until
voices were hoarse and sides ached.
Not alone was the program amusing,
but it was varied and finished as well,
with many special features, surprises and
innumerable local hits to place it well up
towards the front as one of the most suc
cessful amateur entertainments ever
given'here. 4

A. Lincoln Pandolph Johnson, (Mr. W.
E. Putnam, Jr.,) the song and walk
around of Two Mokes from Smoke, (The
Unknown and Uncle Demus,) was
demanded repeated by the enthusiastic
audience.
The program opened with the usual
circle and its olio of songs, choruses and
jokes, with numerous local thrusts in
which the Kesident General Manager of
The Village and the Editor of the "Out
urst" were given special attention.
The first number was an overture bv
the orchestra after which a medley of
uarkey songs was sung by the company,
-N'ext in order was a pleasing duel
"Xavajo," by Miss Minehaha Crowfoot
(Miss Lucy K. Priest,) and Mr. Jackson,

The first part ended with the hit of the
evening, a rendition of the popular ballad

The second part was preceded by a series
of amusing stories, related by Dr. J. II.
Packard, of Philadelphia, the only one
on the program, by the way, who was
not honored with a special name. Fol

An Up-to-date It ail road.
There is considerable rivalry between
Pullman porters on competing, railway
lines, which is illustrated by the follow
ing story told at The I Folly Inn the other
evening.
The porters were standing upon the car
platform making startling claims as to
the number of passengers carried by
their respective lines. Finally one turned
away with disgust exclaiming :
"(!o way nigger, this here railroad
kills more people than you-uns carries.'
