Event Will Occupy Whole of Coming: Week and Itlany Prominent Ama teur Will Compete. HE first of the great com pany of golfers which will assemble here for the annual Midwinter or In auguration Tourna m e n t which will occupy the whole of the coming week, is on hand. Large delegations are. expected today, and every train, up to Tuesday night, will swell the number. Hay begins Monday with the qualify ing round of the International Tourna ment for Advertising Men, which will continue through Tuesday. The Mid winter tournament begins Wednesday morning with a qualification round and continues through Saturday, ending with a medal play handicap. Among the first to come was a large party headed by William C. Freeman, of Montclair, X. .1., and including his son, Kdwin. Both have been annual visitors for many years and have a wide circle of acquaintances. Another party is under the leadership of Frank Prosbrey, of New York. Mr. Hvsbrey's frequent visits here and genial personality have made hosts of friends for him. Others who have signified their inten tion of participating are : Rudolph Kleybolt, and R. K. ATURDAY'S eighteen hole medal play handicap for the New Year's cups resulted in a close con test for the gross score cups, J. II. Clapp, of Washington, winning with 91, only two strokes in the lead of (J. Lee Knight, of Philadelphia, and L. R. Fuller, of New York, who scored 93 each. A. E. Lard, of Washington, the scratch man, scored 95. F. E. Belden, of Hartford, playing with a handicap of 22, took the net score cup with 79, leading his nearest opponent 7 strokes.
