Hitch Interest Aroused ami Several Interesting- Communications lie-celred-Xhe Solution Given. EVEKAL interesting so lutions of last week's six card whist problem have been received, two of which are printed below in connection with The Outlook's solution. The interest aroused among whist players was gen eral, and a second and different problem is presented this week. The editor would be glad to receive solutions. THE OUTLOOK'S SOLUTION. Trick. 1. South. II. Kn. West. II. 2. North. East. II. Ki. 11.5. Next South leads the ace of Clubs and West must now choose whether he v. ill discard his remaining Diamond, or on- of his two Hearts. If he discards a Dia mond, then North keeps his remaining Diamond (the nine) and discards the -ix of Hearts. If, on the other hand, West discards a heart, then North discards tlte nine of Diamonds and makes his two re maining Hearts on the lead of the four of Hearts by South. The key to the problem is that South must first lead the knave of Hearts (not the four), in order that North may I li able to win the two Heart tricks should East discard the Queen on the lead of last trump. Trick 1 South leads knight of Heart s won by North with King. Trick 2 North leads ten of Diamonds won by South with trump. Trick 3 South leads seven of Spades wins North discarding ten of Clubs. Trick 4 South leads Ace of Clubs wins North discarding a Diamond if East has discarded a Heart and discarding a Heart if East has discarded a Diamond. Trick 5 South leads four of Hearts won by North, who now leads either the remaining Heart or the remaining Dia mond, according to the previous discard of West. Ft v J j l 7 a u 1 v --5j"SEdrfe. AT THE TURN WITH A PUTT FOH THE HOLE. S. 6. S. 7. D.7. C.7. D. 9. 1). 8. C. 10. D. Kn. Note E. must keep two clubs and also the Queen of hearts. 4 C. Ace. D. Qu. D. 10. II. Qu. Note W. must keep the two hearts. If he does not N. would discard the D. 10. If E. die carded a club S. would make the last two tricks in clubs. 5. II. 4. II. 3. II. 6. C. 6. 6. C. 5. 11.10. II. Ace. C.Kn. J. F. C.'S SOLUTION. South leads the Knave of Hearts, which North takes with King. North then leads the ten of Diamonds, which South takes with six of Spades. South then leads the seven of Spades on this West probably plays the seven of Clubs and North plays the ten of Clubs. East must now discard his re maining Diamond, for, if he discards his remaining Heart it is obvious that South can ultimately lead the four of Hearts and that North will hold the winning tenace of Hearts over West. If, on the other hand, East discards a Club, then South can make both of his Clubs. Note If at Trick 3, East should dis card the Queen of Hearts instead of the Diamond, then North keeps his Ace, six of Hearts, irrespective of the discard by West, and when South, at trick 5, leads four of Hearts, North must win both tricks as he holds the tenace over West. J. F. C. J. M. R.'S SOLUTION. Lead ace of Clubs, then lead trump, and if West discards heart, North will discard a Diamond. If West discard Dia mond North will discard Heart. The third lead will be four of Ilea H taken by Ace or King. Fourth lead Diamond trumped by South. Fifth leads Jack of Hearts. Sixth lead either Hearts or Diamonds, according to how West played on tli trump lead. ! M. K IOST ! A black ribbon watch fob with gold chai n' bear initials "J. C. II."
