The spectacular feature of the week was the breaking of the amateur thirty six hole tournament record for the course by Allan Lard of the Columbia Golf Club, Washington, in Wednesday's qualification round, and the first round of match play with score of 148, rounds of seventy-six and seventy-two. HERRESHOFF'S SEVENTY-FIVE. Another splendid card was made by Mr. Herreshoff in Thursday morning's round, a seventy-five, with a thirty-four out with a seven on the seventh hole and a forty-one in. The card : Out-4 4 2 3 3 4 7 3 4-34 In 54546453 641-75 On his afternoon round Mr. Herreshoff made an eighty, or a thirty-six hole total of one hundred and fifty-five, which is, in the language of golfers, "some going." OTHER FINE SCORES. Other fine scores of the week included the seventy-eight and seventy-nine made by E. N. Wright of Newton Centre, and C. L. Becker of Boston, in Wednesday's f "A v l fir I V TP- . . MIX, NEW YORK, WHO SCORED 103 IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP. better than the best tournament record ever made here by Walter J. Travis, the British champion, and establishes a new amateur record for the course in tourna ment play, which will undoubtedly stand against all comers for many a day to come. Mr. Travis qualified with eighty- one in. the Midwinter Tournament, and at seventy-eight in last year's champion ship, leading the field in both instances. This record is all the more remarkable in view of the fact that the course has qualification round, and the seventy eight made by Mr. Becker in the first round of the finals Friday morning. A REMARKABLE WEEK. From start to finish the week has been a remarkable one, Mrs. Paterson's de feat, Mr. Lard's thirty-six hole record, and the final round in the championship, combining to make a series of brilliant features which have never before been equalled here.
