morning round drew a
field of over seventy par
ticipants, and resulted in
the closest event of its character ever
seen here, fourteen of the participants
finishing in eighty-two and under, with
numerous ties throughout the entire list.
C. L. liecker of the Woodland Golf
Club, Auburndale, won the gold medal
offered for the best gross score, with a
card of seventy-eight, two duplicate
rounds of thirty-nine, leading the entire
handicap field by a stroke, and his near
est gross score opponents Fred Ilerre
shoiF, of New York, and Edwin A. Free
man, of Montclair, three strokes. E. 8.
Armstrong, of the Deal Golf Club, scored
eighty-two gross.
William C. Freeman, of Montclair,
William B. Khett, of the Crescent Athe
totic Club, Brooklyn, and T. W. Weeks,
of the Storm King Golf Club, New York,
tied for the best net score, at seventy
nine each.

A special scratch match play tourna
ment begun Friday morning, is in prog
ress as The Outlook goes to press, the
players qualifying in divisions of eight.
Three cups were offered in the first
division, one each for the winner and
runner-up, and one for the winner of the
consolation. Cups are also offered for
the winners and runners-up in each of
the principal divisions and for the winner
in each of the consolation divisions.
Edwin A. Freeman, Montclair, won the
gold medal offered for the best score in
qualification with eighty-one.
