HE week has brought a recork-breaking influx of arrivals, and with The Holly Inn well filled, the opening of The Berk shire, Monday, conies Old and new friends are coming and many pleasant acquaint ances, formed during previous visits, are being renewed. The spirit of the Holi days is still in evidence and social pleas ures and out-door diversions are provid ing entertainment for all. AT THE HOILY IWW. The New Year finds The Holly Inn en tertaining the largest number of early season visitors in the history of the house, and never before has a more con ger 'al company been gathered here. Among the pleasant social features of the week was the Thursday evening whist party, eight tables being necessary. Miss M. France, New York, Mrs. F. J. Bailey, Chicago, Mr. E. R. Clarke, Phila delphia, and Mr. W. A. Patterson, Mt. Vernon, N. Y., were winners of the very dainty prizes offered. A novel frolic is promised at tonight's Salmagundi party in which many of the Villagers will participate. AMONG THE GUESTS. Prominent among the week's arrivals are Mr. and Mrs. Allan Lard, Washing ton, who return for their fourth season, and are warmly welcomed by many friends and acquaintances. Mr. Lard is a golfer of national prominence, holds a very low 36 hole record for the local course of 148, and has won his share of cups here. Mrs. Lard is a charming woman who is active in out door sports and social pleasures. Mrs. J. G. J. Campbell and Miss Camp bell, Milwaukee, and Mr. and Mrs. II. G. Marvin, New London, Ct., come to re main until the house closes. Mr. and Mrs. Francis It. Emmons, Miss Martha Emmons, New York, are making a short visit. Mr. Emmons is enjoying the shooting. B. R. Smith and Miss Smith, New York, will remain through the coming week. Mr. W. C. Johnson, New York, returns for golf and shooting. Mr. A."Michael, Boston, spent a portion of the week here. Mr. David Irons, Philadelphia, will re main two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. II. II. McClure, New York, come for an extended visit. Mr. and Mrs. George C. Dingham, Buf falo, are making a return visit. Mr. Charles A. O'Brien, Miss Rose O'Brien, Miss Elizabeth O'Brien and Master Charles O'Brien, Pittsburg, will remain several weeks. Mr. O'Brien was so delighted with a visit last . season that he returns with his family. Mr. George M. McCandless, Mr. Wil liam A. Blakeley, Mr. Robert W. Flen niken, and Mr. George S; Oliver, Pitts burg, are completing a short stay during which they have enjoyed golf. Mr. W. E. Conklyn, New York, of the Seaboard Air Line, spent a portion of the week here. Dr. L. K. Graber, Harrisburg, Pa., will remain some time. Dr. and Mrs. Emery Marvel, Atlantic City, come for a short stay and return visit, renewing pleasant acquaintances formed in the past. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas T. Rushmore, New York, come for the Holiday tour ney. Miss E. E. Ransom, Weldon, N. C, re turns for an extended visit. Mr. W. A. Patterson, Mt. Vernon, N. Y., joins the McClures. Mr. John Teagle, Cleveland, and Mr. W. C. Teagle, New York, come for a short visit. Gen. and Mrs. J. B. DeRussy, U. S. A., are planning a long sojourn. Gen. De Russy represents a distinguished military family. Mrs. Samuel P. Harbison, Mrs, Eliza beth N. Boyd, Mr. William A. Harbison, Pittsburg, come for the season. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Dreifus, child and nurse, and Miss Wertheimer, Pittsburg, will remain until spring. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Peet, children and maid, Warwick, N. Y., are here previous to locating in their new cottage. Mr. and Mrs. John M. Ward, Brook lyn, return, Mr. Ward coming for shoot ing. Mrs. J. J. Myers, baby and maid, New York, join Mr. and Mrs. Mallinson. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Belden, Hartford, come for an extended sojourn and return visit. Mr. Charles Presbrey, and Mr. Bayard Stockton, Jr., Princeton students, are spending the holidays here. Late arrivals include Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Malley, Wallace W. Malley, New Haven; Mrs. Lous Bletz, Miss Grace Bletz, Detroit; Mrs. J. R. Jarvis, and her two sons, New York; Mr. A. F. Rush, Mr. A. R. Baster, Philadelphia ; Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Workman, children and maids, New York ; Mr. E. II. Storr, Baltimore. Berkshire Heady for Opening. Manager Abbott has The Berkshire ready for opening, Monday, according to schedule, with guests already waiting for entrance and many booked to come during the week. The Carolina opens January twelfth and The Harvard the fifteenth, none to soon to provide for the big influx of guests due at that time. At The Lenox. Mr. D. N. Clark, Westville, Ct., re turns for his annual winter sojourn, and will be located at The Berkshire as usual. Mr. James II. Tinney, Jersey City, is completing a short visit. I
