(N EVENLY matched field made the match play rounds of the St. Valen tine's tournament of more than ordinary interest. Close contests were the rule rather than the exception, and many rounds required extia holes to decide them. Of surprises there' were several and ex cellent golf much, the match between J. D. Foot and C. L. Becker, in the second round of the consolation, with its medal play rounds of seventy-nine and eighty being conspicuous. Mr. Becker was one up at the turn, but Mr. Foot evened matters on the eleventh, winning by one up on the home green with a halved five. The cards : FOOT.
