' Virginia Beach, Va., March 26 Several very pleasant dinners were the features of the week, and which well il lustrate the cordial good fellowship which exists among the guests here. Among the most novel of these fea tures was an "oyster roast'' given by Mr. M. C. Conner of New, York, in honor of Miss Lillian Groves, at Cape Henry. After lunching the party visited the sand hills1 light house and wireless station, returning to the hotel to witness a mock marriage between Dr. 1. K. Gray bill, alias Mr. P. K. Buckshot, and Miss Patti Warren, alias Mrs. Mary Louise Long acres. Following the ceremony the party were entertained at dinner by Mr. James P. Groves, after which adjournment was made to the ball room which had, in the interval, been transformed into a mock court room. On Tuesday Miss Christine Groves gave a dinner of fourtcencovers in honor of Miss Henrietta Crawford of Moutclair, and on Wednesday Judge M. C. Mcintosh of Chicago, entertained Miss Carrie Allen of Norfolk, and Mrs. lieginald Spraguc Boby of South Africa, a dozen covers being laid. The table was beautifully decorated with American beauty roses and souvenir boquets of violets which were distributed after the last toast. At the Casino Monday evening a very interesting entertainment was given in the way of Buster Brown and St. Louis Fair moving pictures. The annual mas querade ball of the hotel employees, for the benefit of the emergency sick fund, occupied the building Tuesday evening and furnished amusement for a large company which taxed the capacity of the building. Pine Beach, Va., March 20 Much interest has been manifested here in the presence of the great seven masted schooner Thos. W. Lawson. This great sailing vessel loaded witli coal, is now lying at anchor just off from the hotel, waiting favorable wind before starting on her great trip around the Horn for Manilla. The freight on this cargo of coal will be $40,000.00, while on her re turn the Lawson will bring lumber from Puget Sound, upon which $75,000.00 will be paid as freight.
