cup, between C. E. Cam
eron of Baltusrol, whose handicap was
fourteen, and A. P. K. James of London,
whose allowance was ten, Mr. Cameron

The battle for the gold medal offered
for the best gross score was a, pretty one,
L. A. Hamilton of Englewood, winning
with a card of eighty-four and a margin
of three strokes, Mr. James being his
nearest opponent. W. K. Wood of the
llomewood Club, winner of the amateur
championship, was next with eighty
eight, and L. E. Wardwell of Megunti
cook, and Edwin A. Freeman of Mont
clair, tied for fourth position at eighty
nine. George E. Morse of the Rutland
Country Club, and William C. Freeman of
Montclair, made ninety each, and C. L.
Keeker of Woodland, ninety-two.
A high wind which made the putting
greens ''impossible" was responsible for
the high scores.

terized by brilliant golf
and close scores, a number of the ama
teurs who were prominent in the cham
pionship, participating.
Professional Donald J. Ross of the
local and the Oakley Country Clubs, led
the field with a record card of one hun
dred and forty-six, establishing a new
record for the present course, doing the
morning round in seventy-two and the
afternoon in' seventy-four!

Professionals Arthur H. Fenn of Palm
Beach and Poland Spring, and Alex. Rosa
were only four strokes away and tied at
one hundred and fifty each, with the rest
of the field well up, L. E. Wardwell of
the Megunticook Club, Maine, leading the
amateurs and tying with Professional
Jack Jolly at one hundred and fifty-two.
The sensational feature of the day's play
was Mr. Fenn's fast morning round of
seventy, the score out being remarkable
in that it contained two twos and three
fives, and a total of thirty-three.
