CHARM OF COTTAGE LIFE
Old and New Friends Among Those
Who Will Enjoy its Pleasures.
George F. Jllake Xurcliae Hone
and Will Transform Into
Attractive Home.
HE cottage colony is
already well established,
the charm of this life
bringing back many old
friends as well as some
new faces, all of whom
.are cordially welcomed, for these homes
.give the Village a dignity and character
which is enjoyed by all.
The interest awakened by the recent
announcement of the Management that
lots would be sold, subject to certain re
strictions in keeping with the character
of the Village, continues, and bids fair to
add another and very pleasant feature to
this life.
NEWS AND GOSSIP.
The important addition of the summer is a pri
vate home for Mr. George F. Blake of Worcester,
Mass., who has bought the Rose cottage, and is
making extensive additions and alterations
which will make it one of the most attractive
ottages in the Village. Mr. Blake and his
family have spent two seasons here and have
formed many pleasant acquaintances.
Mr. Warren II. Manning of Boston, who has
spent many seasons here, has purchased land
and is planning to build an attractive winter
home upon it.
Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Stowe of Grafton, Mass.,
return to the Marlborough for their sixth season.
Mrs. M. E. Baxter of Boston, Is at the Beacon
for her sixth winter.
Mr. and Mrs. S. A. D. Sheppard of Boston, will
make their third annual sojourn here, occupying
the Honeysuckle.
Mr. and Mrs. G. II. Oldring of Brooklyn, re
turn and will be at the Yucca.
Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Dodd of Zanesville, Ohio,
will occupy the Hawthorne, accompanied by
Mr. Dodd's father, one of the general counsel for
the Standard Oil Company.
Mr. and Mrs. II. W. Ormsbee of Brooklyn

Dogwood.
Mr. Leonard Tufts and family of Boston, are
again at the Mystic for the season.
Mrs. A. F. Sise and Mr. Horace F. Sise of Med
ford, Mass., return to the Craddock.
Mr. Frederick Bruce and the Misses Bruce of
New York, will again spend the winter at the
Oaks.
Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Murphy of Tittsburg, take
the Persimmon.
Mr. Arthur Malcolm of Bethlehem, will spend
the season at the Waldhcim.

Seaaon Open With Old Corps 'of In
Htructom in Attendance.)
The Pinehurst Schools open with the
same corps of instructors who made it so
successful last season. Aldice G.
Warren, who has had an unusually good
season at his summer school at Point
Lookout, Sodus Bay, New York, returns
as Head Master, Philip L. Light
bourn will be in charge of the Prepara
tory Department, and Miss Anne L. Hay
will be at the head of the Intermediate
Department. It is hoped that Miss
Elizabeth Macfarlane, who during the
past three years has made so many
friends by her work in the Primary De
partment, may also return, but on account
of the death of her father, she may find
it impossible to do so.
Many changes will be noticed in the
school building. The school-rooms and
halls have been finished, a fine system of
steam heating has been introduced, and
the plumbing and drainage of the build
ing has been carefully attended to. Ar
rangements have also been made for a
boarding department for boys, and it is
confidently expected that this feature
will supply a demand which has made
itself felt ever since the establishment of
the school.
