PROVIDES NOVEL EVENING SALMAGUNDI party provided a novel and unique evening's enter tainment at The Berk shire; two hours being devoted to a melee of " stunts " eight in number, ranging from making dolls out of potatoes to indoor putting. Prizes were offered to those who accomplished the work assigned them in the shortest possible time and most accurately, Mrs. W. T. Ilyslop of Norfolk, and Mrs. F. II. Crary of Craw ford, N". J., tying, Mrs. Ilyslop winning on the draw, Miss Elizabeth Mercur of West Pittston, winning the consolation. At the first table the trick was to make dolls out of potatoes and toothpicks, last of all making gowns and lingerie for them out of materials provided. At table number two was button sew ing, most attractive to the men (?) and at table number three a cracker eating contest, table etiquette being set aside to allow unlimited speed in the three min utes allotted and the assistance of water barred. Table number four called for the trans fer of a number of potatoes from beneath the table to the top by aid of a teaspoon and table number five was the extrac tion of elusive peanuts from a bowl by aid of flexible tootlipicks. At table number six skill was brought into play, few being able to jump small crackers from the palms of the hands into their mouths by a quick blow on the wrist. Table number seven was needle thread ing with thread too large and eyelets too small, and strange as it may seem the men won the honors. Last of all came indoor putting, not so easy as it looked, but a game more or less familiar to all ; a fitting ending of an evening Of merrymaking. Other similar affairs are planned and eagerly anticipated, for The Berkshire has always made much of the entertain ment feature, and Manager and Mrs. F. C. Abbe are thorough believers in it.
