The w eek has provided plenty of en tertainment for baseball's devotees, the perfect weather adding many new faces to the big crowds of onlookers. In Thursday's game the Village defeat ed The Carolina 12 to 3, squaring their defeat in Tuesday's close game, which "the hill" boys won, 8 to 7. Last Friday's bent-fit game drew a large attendance and fast play developed, the Village defeating The Carolina 6 to 4 ; the day following, the losers evening matters, 11 to 6. Various games planned for the weeks to come promise excellent sport. Dual Birthday Anniversaries. The birthday anniversary of Miss Vesta Blake was made an occasion of pleasure, Tuesday afternoon, for a group of young friends including Misses Katherine and Elizabeth Leach, Miss Eosamund Cum mings, and Miss Esther and Master Richard Tufts. Lunch was served fol lowing an afternoon of games. In the evening Miss Elizabeth Leach, for the same purpose, entertained the company, with the addition of Master Lincoln CummiDgs, supper being fol lowed by an evening of games. Mint Julep Party Among the jolliest of the informal affairs of the week at The Carolina, was a mint julep party, given by Mr. and Mrs. Allan Lard, who, as Kentuckians, claim a knowledge of and fondness for this famous beverage by right of inherit ance. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Wattenberg, Mr. and Mrs. W. Tyson liomaine, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Jillson, Mr. Fred IlerrefchofF, and Mr. L. A. Hamilton. Afternoon Ilridg-e. A bridge party arranged by Mrs.' J. C. Head of Latrobe, was enjoyed by Caro lina women during the week ; Mrs. M. B. Johnson of Cleveland, and Mrs. C. M. Ilanrahan of Binghamton, winning the trophies. Others present were Mes- dames Brown, Banker, Todd, Lockwood, Kelly, Porter, Davidge, Hill, Calder, Downie, Bowman, Kidgway, Taylor and Head. Mrm. It omalne a Guest. The birthday anniversary of Mrs. W. Tyson liomaine was made the occasion of a delightful surprise dinner given by her husband at The Carolina during the week. Leahy of Brooklyn, shooting with an allowance of ten targets, winning a tro phy ottered by Leonard Tufts, Tuesday afternoon. Miss E, Marie Sinclair of Boston (30), was second in eighty-one, C. A. Lock wood of New York (0), third in seventy eight, and Bandmaster'John Philip Sousa (1G), fourth in seventy-seven. A Golfer' Bream. One of the pleasant informal dinners of the week at The Carolina was a spread given Tuesday evening by Mrs. F. T. HeffelHnger of Minneapolis. The guests were Miss E. Marie Sinclair, Miss Mary M. Bates, Miss Elizabeth Farrelly, Mr. S.V. Farrelly, Mr, N. S. Hurd, Mr. J. V. Hurd. Beturns to The Kvumurgc, The many friends of Manager A. I. Creamer of The Inn, will learn with pleasure of his return to The Kearsage at North Conway, N. H., during the coming summer. The hotel has been extensively im proved and will be better prepared than ever before to meet the demands of patrons. Fancy Pool Inhibition. " Joe" G. Hood, the pool expert, en tertained Village guests very pleasantly during the week with his exhibition of fancy shots. What Hood cannot accom plish is not worth mentioning, and his running fire of comment is an entertain ment in itself. Mm. Jenny Beturns. Mrs. W. T. Jenny and Master Leonard Jenny of Medford, are the guests of Mrs. Jennoy's mother, Mrs. James VV. Tufts, at the Cypress cottage.
