PAGE THE PINEHURST OUTLOOK s in form, for he is a Western cyclone." The truth of this statement is best veri fied by some of the wonderful scores he has made. October 4th, 1899, in the contest for the Republic Cup, he killed 100 live pigeons straight from the 30-yard mark. In five matches of 100 birds each he made a total of 487 kills, an average of 97.4 per cent, a record never equalled by any other shot at this kind of shooting. At St. Louis, May 14-19, 1900, he killed 125 pigeons straight in competition, and made a total kill of 214 out of 215. Some of his performances at targets are 1223 out of 1300 at Madison Square Garden, March 2nd, 1898. During this shoot he made a straight run of 116. At Boston, Mass., June 28th, 1802, he made a straight run of 127, and at York, Pa., in May, 1904, he broke 520 out of 535 targets. Mr. Elliott still holds the Cast Iron Medal, emblematic of the Live Bird Cham pionship of America. Aside from his skill as a shot, Mr. Elliott has proven himself an ingenious inventor, having patented the Elliott Ear Drum Protector, which has been a boon to all trap shooters, as by its use "shoot ers' headache" and injury to sensitive ear drums have been done away with. JOHN It. TAYLOR. John II. Taylor, of Newark, Ohio, only started trap shooting a few years ago, but since that time he has made the experts sit up and take notice. He is good for around 95 per cent any time, and usually does much better than this. He won the high amateur average at the Ohio State Shoot in 1904. At the Grand American Handicap that year he scored 94 targets out of 100 from the 19 yard mark, which gave him second place. He also tied one of the leading experts of the country at a shoot held at St. Louis during 1904, making a score of 98 out of 100. At the Hamilton (Ontario; shoot, in 1900, he won first average for both the target and live bird events, making the unprecedented score of G82 out of 700 targets. This was one of the most im portant shoots held in the Provinces, and Canada's best marksmen were pres ent. In 190G Mr. Taylor won the Gilman & Barnes trophy, emblematic of the Inter national Live Bird Championship, with a score of 25 straight from the 31-yard mark against a big field of experts. He was a member of the Winchester squad that made the world's record for a five-man team of 49G out of 509 targets at Lees burg, Fla., November 21, 1907, his indi vidual score being 100 straight ; and con tinuing, he scored 98 out of his next 100. For the tour he made an average of 96.G3 per cent for the 3150 targets he shot at. During 1907 he shot at 15180 targets, breaking 94.3 per cent. For the past year his shooting has been of a high class. At Columbus, Ohio, April 22nd, he scored 198 out of 200, and on the 23rd, 196 out of 200, making a total for the two days of 394 out of 400, with straight runs of 120 and 140. On May 6-7 he made a score of 386 out of 400 at Circleville, O., and at the West Virginia State Shoot June 10-11, his score was 578 out of 600, an average of 96.3 per cent, which was remarkable. MR. IIAROLD MONEY. For many years Harold Money has been prominently before the American public as one of the leading experts with a shotgun, and he is known in every cor ner of this great land. Wherever he goes he always receives a royal welcome, for aside from his genial personality he is one of the consistent shooters today, and can always be relied upon to give a good exhibition. Therefore his presence is in great demand wherever shoots are held. For the last two years he has ranked well up among the leaders in trap shoot ing, his average being over 90 per cent for about 12,000 targets shot at. At the tournaments he attended in 1905 he won in all, twelve first averages. He has made many long runs and many "straight scores'' are to his credit. The reports of his shooting for 1906 show that at Trinidad, Colo., September 4th, he broke 190 out of 200 targets ; and at Larned, Kansas, November 2-3, he scored 381 out of 400. He holds the world's record for one of the most dif ficult forms of target shooting: Shoot ing at 50 pairs in a three-cornered race at St. Louis, in 1903, he made a score of 99. This is an almost impossible per formance and has never been duplicated. Last year he did exceptionally good shooting, his score of 198 out of 200 at Dublin, Ga., November 7, showing the character of his work. AIN'T IT OltFUIi KABUI,?' (Concluded from page 1.)
