( Written for The Outlook. ) It's breezes soft cartss you It's blue, blue skies enfold; It's sweet bird notes allure you, Back from the North-land cold. It's jasmine flowers smile at you, Greetings on every side ; It's open fields entreat you To wander far and wide. It's dim sweet aisles Invite you, While murmuring pine trees tall, Whisper their loving message Holding your heart in thrall. The sunshine sheds it's brilliance, With warmth your heart it fills; While Nature's sweet suggestions Through all your being thrills. It's moonlight brings enchantment, When all its radiance rare Makes earth a fairy garden And you a captive there. It's myriad stars watch o'er you, Through peaceful nights of calm; The freshness of its mornings Lays on your heart its balm. It's long fair days enrich you, Under the arching sky ; An ardent wooer Pinehurst ! Yes wooed, and won, am I. HELEN BLANCHE FOSTER Rose Cottage Speaking- of Golf. (With apologies to Ella Wheeler Wilcox.) ( Written for The Outlook.) "It's easy enough to be pleasant When Life goes by with a song, But the man worth while Is the man who will smile When everything goes dead wrong." It's easy enough to be cheerful, And look on with a "chessy-cat" grin, When the other man plunks All his balls In the bunks, And you tell him to swear is a sin. And you say with a smile condescending, And an air that is simply a bird, "Now brace up, old fell That's a mere bagatelle ! I've done that myself, 'pon my word!" Then you swell out your chest, nonchalantly, And Bend a ball whizzing through space It lands in the mud With a dull, sickening thud And you cuss everything on the place. And then, with disgust past expression, You take up the same old refrain, "Oh, bother! (?) Oh, whew! (????) What's the use I'm all through!" Then you start in all over again ! JENNIE J. MOKANDI.
