ALTHOUGH entirely
informal and arranged
on short notice, Satur
day evening's masquer
ade at The Carolina
proved one of the most
entertaining affairs of
the season for a com
pany of several hundred
onlookers. While the number in costume
was not large the list of characters was
varied and the impersonations excellent ;
a cosmopolitan throng representative of
many lands and many climes presenting
a fascinating picture. Prizes awarded
went to Mr. Prestley S. Maclaughlin as
a Chinese mandarin and Miss Kate Van
Ostrand as Folly, both costumes perfect
in every detail.
Mr. N. S. Hurd was excellent as a
summer girl and Mr. Charles M.
Fink was the Cream of Wheat Chef to
perfection. Miss Hazel Shannon and
Miss Myra B. Helmer were chic as
French maids, Mis3 Ruth Fletcher and
Miss Elizabeth Bunn were dainty
as Yama Yama girls, Miss Rosamond
Cummings was charming as the Queen
of Hearts, Mrs. Spencer Waters delight
ful as the old fashioned girl, and Miss
Dorothea Joyce and Miss Mary Tutt
exquisite as French dolls. Among other
costumes which attracted attention were
Mr. W. S. Dillon as a sportsman, Mr
E. E. Babb as a clown, Mr. J. C. Neft
as a sailor and Mrs. R. C. King as a Red
Cross nurse.
The judges were Messrs. L. M. Hart
and H. H. Buckley, Mrs. Guy E. Robin
son, Mrs., I. S. Robeson and Mrs. Her
bert L. Jillson. General dancing in
which all participated, rounded out the
evening, with refreshments at intermission.
Mr. Xlcbol Wins Trap Shooting
A. J. Nichols, shooting with a handi
cap of twenty, was the winner of the
weekly trap shooting handicap with a
score of five targets more than it would
have been possible for the scratch man to
make. D. T. Leahy (8) was second in
ninety-six and E. H. Pinney (20) third in
ninety-three.
