FOX BUNTING SEASON OPENS Preliminary Working Out Runs Occupy Attention of Master and Huntsman Pack Oet Away from Old at and Catcne Fox Me eslred to Save for Future Hun PRELIMINARY work ing out runs have marked the opening week of the fox hunt ing season, Master Twit ty and Huntsman Nat occupied with " scout ing " expeditions which have covered the terri tory round about pretty thoroughly. "Got a few of 'em located," says Master Twitty, "and as soon as our friends are ready I'll promise a good opening chase. From what I hear we are going to have bigger crowds than ever, and thirty joined us last year." til D EIIG IITFCX AUTO TRIP Via Rocking-Iiani, Hoffman, Hamlet, File rue and Jackson Spring: Of the numerous auto trips radiating from Pinehurst, the following seventy four mile run to Rockingham-via Hoff man and Hamlet, and back via Ellerbe and Jackson Springs is most attractive. We are indebted to Mr. Frederic Bruce for the information : Starting from the General Office at Pinehurst, follow the Pinehurst to Fay etteville Blue Book Route No. 701 as far as Aberdeen, then turn sharp right iust before Aberdeen Station, follow railroad, crossing bridge at 7 miles. 7.5 Take left fork at 9.2, cross bridge and go up grade to Pine Bluff, (10 miles) . Go straight through down grade, crossing bridge at 10.G. 11.4 Turn right (left to Keyser). 12.1 Turn left, cross long fill and bridge over Drowning Creek at 14.1. Pass Hoffman railroad station at 18.2. 18.7 Take left fork (right fork to Rockingham) follow railroad. 21.3 Cross railroad, passing Cognac Switch Station at 24.7. 20.3 Cross railroad. Hamlet 32 miles. THE PINEHURST HUNT Hunting by himself early in the week, Nat jumped a gray late in the afternoon, just beyond Taylorville on the Jackson Springs road. Five minutes of trailing and the race was on before the hunts man was aware of it. Thirty minutes later the kill resulted ; mad music with out a break. "Tried to stop 'em, Marse Twitty," commented Nat, " an' sab de fox f oh a hunt ; but, loh sakes, Marse, yeh moight ez well have tried to stop er landslide. No use talkin', Marse Twitty, dose dawgs kin cuttinly burn de wind when dey gits stahted ! " Dinner for Mr. and Mrg, Ormibee Mr. and Mrs. II. W. Ormsbee were dinner guests of the Misses Sarah A. Beach and Annie B. Phelps at The Carolina during the week. Mi ilutchimon Fnteitalns The birthday of Miss Olive Hutchinson was the occasion of a Carolina dinner for her young friends ; a candle-lighted cake the table decoration. N.B. There is a good road from Ham let to Rockingham and from Rockingham to Pinehurst. Yon can follow route No. 828 in the Blue Book, Vol. 3. The round trip is about 70 miles and will take about 4 hours. IIU1H,ESIUE VACDEVIIIE IToung-er Set at Carolina Plan Evening of Novel Entertainment The younger set at The Carolina are planning burlesque vaudeville for Christ mas eve with Dr. S. G. Gant, legerde main artist, as the star attraction. There will also be the "Grizzly Kids," "Cherry Sisters," "Happy Pair" and "Bowery Toughs," not to mention the "Oriental Quintette" and the "Jolly Rovers." Doors open at 8.30 ; performance at 9.
