SCO II E WAS TWO A2VI JVAUGI1T
Carolina Itallle for Win in Bent
Hall Game oi Season
In the best played game of the season
the Carolina nine defeated the Villsige
team by a score of 2 to 0. After two
straight defeats The Carolinas proved
their ability to come back, and by shut
ting out their opponents, demonstrated
the quality of baseball they are capable
of playing. Assisted by perfect support
Morris pitched air-tight ball, Nichols' two
bagger in the sixth robbing him of a no
hit, no run game.
Finnegan opened the game with a sin
gle, was advanced to third by Morris' hit,
and scored when Armstrong erred in
handling Morrissey ' s grounder. PeRoehn
got on after Iiruehmuller dropped his
pop fly, filling the bases. On a fake play
to catch the runner off second, Morris
attempted to score from third, but (Row
ing's perfect return nailed him at the
plate. Armstrong fielded Edson's easy
grounder, retiring the side and preventing
further scoring. Carolina's second and
last tally was made in the third by De
Roehn, who scored on Spredbury's slash
ing hit to deep center.
The Villager's only chance to score
came in the third. With two men on
and only one out the prospects of tieing
up the score looked bright, but McAuley's
liner went straight into Morrissey's
hands, who completed an easy double
play at second. With two gone in the
sixth, Nichols drove out a nice two bag
ger, but McAuley's bid for a hit resulted
in a pop fly to shortstop, leaving him
stranded on second.
The score by innings :
Carolina 1 01 000 0
Village 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
GOOD WISHES FOR MRS. UlIRD
Hamilton, Ontario, Tiniest Extends
Congratulation of friend
The Hamilton Daily limes prints the
following : f An exceptionally quiet wed
ding was solemnized in Christ's Church
Cathedral this afternoon when, in the
presence of relatives and a few close
personal friends only, Miss Dorothy
Iola Campbell of this city became the
bride of Mr. Jack Vandevort Ilurd of
Pittsburgh. The very Rev. Dean Almon
Abbott, rector of the Cathedral, ofii
ciated. The bride wore a traveling suit
of brown tweed with brown hat. She
was given away by Lieut.-Col. William
Hendrie, and was unattended. The
groom was attended by his brother, Mr.
Nathaniel S. Ilurd of Pittsburgh. From
the church Mr. and Mrs. Ilurd went di
rect to the station for a wedding trip
south. They will reside in Pittsburgh.
IT The bride is one of the most popular
of Hamilton's young ladies. She came
here from her old country home a few
years ago, and soon won a large place in
the hearts of Hamilton people because of
her distinct personality and worth. For
years she has been recognized as one of
the cleverest lady golf players of the
world. She has held the championship
of Canada, the United States, Scotland
and England, besides which she is a
social favorite and a young lady of many
attainments. That her married life will
be as bright as her career on the links is
the wish of her hosts of friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Ilurd joined Mr. and
Mrs. W. L. Hurd at their cottage early
in the week.
