Yesterday Manager Lee Magee, Business Manager Dick Carroll and Mr. Ward were in consultation in Mr. Ward's office in the Bronx, and several details of the training trip to Brown's Wells were dis cussed. It is likely that following his rest in Pinehurst Mr. Ward will take a trip to Brown's Wells and arrive there at about the time the Brookfields are due to open their training. C. Macdonald, J. B. Von Canon and Pro fessor E. J. Corkran, the local committee whose reception was most cordial. H President Derby of the Board of Trade presided and Dr. Carver of Harvard, econ omic advisor to the Department of Agri culture, was the first speaker; his subject "Making rural teaching the life of the Community and the necessity for co-operation along all lines of rural work." Dr. Macbrien of the Bureau of Education, Washington, dwelt upon rural school improvement, and State Superintendent Joyner made a plea to the business men to work with the school leaders through the local Board of Trade for the improvement of the schools of the section. If President Derby urged the necessity for better schools to retain, as Secretary of Agriculture Houston ex pressed it, "the requisite number of efficient and contented people." 1f Sec retary Davis of the Board of Trade pre resented a plan for a social survey to be made by the school children for various prizes, which met with hearty approval. In closing, a permanent school com mittee was appointed to represent the Sand Hills Board of Trade in co-operation with teachers and superintendents, to secure better schools in the section; John K. McQueen of Pinehurst is chairman, Clyde L. Davis, secretary, and George Eoss of Jackson Springs, Spain Pool of Cameron and Angus Cameron of Vass are other members. lK MR.. SEHCOJIB!" What He Soesn't Snow About Cot tages lan't Worth Mentioning- Spring is in the air ! Don 't mind if you see our usual genial Director of De velopment, Arthur S. If He 's mere ly "figgering" just where he is going to locate all the people who are considering building private homes for next season occupancy ! Work on the new homes of M. B. John son and G. W. Statzell is progressing rapidly, and it's suggestive to many who are thinking how nice it would be to own a place here. If Mr. Newcomb will help you not alone in thought, but plans, for he knows the local situation as a golfer knows the traps on number 2 course the things to avoid ! 1f ' ' Get next !
