time Village Club open
air Fete is anticipated
for Thursday of the com
ing week, March 11th;
the affair as in the past,
to be held in the pine
grove. If Starting a t
three will be games, a
May pole, and grab bag for the little
folks, followed by dancing and afternoon
tea for the grown-ups at four thirty.
The afternoon has been arranged as a
benefit for the Sand Hills Farm Life
School for the older boys and girls of
the County; an all-the-year Community
of which Pinehurst is now the center. H In
the event of necessity for postponement
the Fete will be held upon the next fair
day, and posters on the various busses
will make one quite sure the fun is on.
Mrs. Leonard Tufts is the active head
of the energetic committee and she is
ably assisted by many former members
of the one time Village Club. If Posters
calling attention to the day have already
anticipated this announcement.

The annual February men's tennis sin
gles developed a splendid final match be
tween J. C. Parrish, Jr., and R. Adams
Balfe which the former won. In opening
play, Parrish recorded 6 2, 6 3, but
Balfe took the third set, 3 6, and fourth,
6 1, only to lose the decisive final, 6 0.
H Parrish won by 2 6, 6 6, 6 2 in the
semi-final with Stephen Gates, and Balfe
triumphed by 8 6, 6 3 over R. II.

Other contestants included A. C. Pear
son, Harry Balfe, March Turner, A. C.
Sullivan, A. C. Speyer, II. C. Anderson,
J. II. Hyde and Howard Smithers. U The
next event on the Country Club schedule
is the annual Club Championship, March
8 13, inclusive, and including men's and
women 's singles, men 's and mixed doubles.
The Championship concludes the Coun
try Club program, but interest bids
fair to result in several special post
season tournaments.
