THE REDS AND THE BLUES The Two Teams Comb the Sandhill Section For New Members llenewal of Old memberships and Contributions of The Sandhill Hoard of Trade UiOJ UNDER which flag! Bezonian?" In which camp are you? The cap tains of the two teams have chosen up sides from the Sandhill towns just as captains choose spellers in a spelling match and made their start on December 8th. You will find your community in one of the lists and the contest is to find out definitely who are with the Board of Trade and who are not with it in the work that it is doing. When the canvass is over it will be definitely known just where all stand. Neutrality is to be made impossible, for the time for a complete division has come. THE "REDS" AND THE ' ' BLUES ' ' The ' 1 Blue Team ' ' is captained by Mr. Frank Page. The "Red Team" is led by Mr. Tufts. Each captain has selected his lieutenants and organized them into a can vassing team. This week the said red and blue automobiles are going all over the Sandhills. The owners of these cars donate their time and their services to the cause of the Board of Trade. Their mission is to call on every man in the various com munities, find out what all think the Board of Trade should accomplish, ask all to give it the support they think it deserves, and to offer every opportunity of becoming members of the organization. The results obtained in each neighborhood will be carefully put on record and the statement of the whole made to the com munity when the teams have finished their work. The line-up of the rival teams is as follows: "the reds" "the blues" Pinchurst Carthage Aberdeen Southern Pines Ellerbe Pincbluff Norman Cameron Hoffman Candor Samarcand " West End Marston ' Eagle Springs Niagara Jackson Springs Keyser Vass Lakeview Timberland-Montrose Manly Every night the two teams meet at Pineliurst, which is the most central point, and turn in a full report of the day's work. The results are telephoned all over the section. It is like watching elec tion returns. We see every day how each community is going, and how its response compares with that of others. membership and contributions The fee for membership in the Sand hill Board of Trade is two dollars a year. Certificates of full membership will be issued upon the payment of this amount. These fees, of course, will not make a sufficient amount to carry on the work of the organization for a whole year. There fore contributions, will also be solicited. The executive .committee asks every man to consider carefully what amount he is warranted in giving to carry forward the work as outlined. It pledges to the com munity its best service in pushing the work that has been so well begun. . old subscriptions first When the Board of Trade was organ ized individuals in the various communi ties subscribed to its support. . Quite a number of these pledges have never been made good. The first work of the teams must, therefore, be to call on those who made these pledges and ascertain whether or not they will redeem them. When this matter is cleared up and the records of it turned in, the next step will be to ap proach the rest of the community. Ex perience with the Sandhill Farmers ' Asso ciation indicates that the teams had bet ter solicit cash rather than subscriptions HOW THE BOARD' OF TRADE MUST BE MANAGED The Sandhill Board of Trade should be thought of not so much as a created thing as something that the community is now creating. Facts modify theories in the development of any organization. It now appears that the form of the Board of Trade will be something like this : Every one in the section will be asked to join the Sandhill Board of Trade direct. In some of the towns strong local boards of trade are now developing. These are fine things, but not every community is now capable of having a live local board. It is possible, however, for the members of the Sandhill Board of Trade who live in any community to get together for a meet ing whenever they need to discuss a com munity problem or take some concerted action. Every community now has a representative on the Board of Governors. Besides regular meetings the Board of Governors can have special called meet ings whenever some measure demands the consideration of the whole section. The publication of the booklet, the warehousing of the cotton, the election of officers, etc., are examples of measures that require meetings of the governors. At their last meeting the governors voted to put the conduct of the Board of Trade into the hands of an executive committee of three. Mr. Derby, the president, and Mr. Frank Page and Mr. Tufts were chosen for this work. The executive com mittee is to meet once a month at least. It is responsible to the governors for the policy of the Board of Trade and must see that the program is carried out prop erly. It directs the work of the secretary and receives his reports monthly. The other officer of the organization is, of course, the treasurer, Mr. R. E. Wiley of Southern Pines. For the present, at least, this seems to be the most logical and sen sible way of conducting the operation of the Sandhill Board of Trade. Address by Ir. Achorn Dr. John Warren Achorn of Pine Bluff will address the Sandhill Farm Life School and visitors at the school house at Eureka at 7 p. m. Wednesday, December 15th. His subject will be "The Healthy Life." ALPHANO 22 KEG. U.S. PAT. OFF. ypr The Dangers in Using Unprepared Humus For Soil Upbuilding' T NMODIFIED ' ' or "unprepared humus" is nothing J but water-logged, sour, swamp muck. Its use increases the acidity of the soil, endangering the destruction of the bacteria, so absolutely essential to all soil fertility. No plant foods are added to make it a balanced soil enrichment. Although sold from dry samples, it generally comes to you in its original water-logged condition, making an . expen sive way to buy water. Contrast it with the sweet, dry, granulated, rich Alphano, with its record of wonderful successes. Our Convincement Book tells the complete story. Send for it.
