riagerblade in Seventy-Five
Against a field that cannot be excelled
anywhere in this country Herbert Lager
blade won first money in an exhibition
golf match on Number 2 Course Wednes
day last. There were eight entries, play
ing for a purse of $300 made up in the
village.
The contestants, who went out before
a large and somewhat disconcerting gal
lery, were Herbert Lagerblade of Pine
hurst. Tom Kerrigan of the Siwanov
Club, Tom MacNamara, James Wilson
of Pinehurst, Pat Doyle, Michael Brady
of Oakley, Skip Wogan of Tinehurst and
George Bowden of the Tedesco Club.
It was the medal play, in two sets of
fours, and in spite of a rather raw wind a
good part of the village turned out to fol
low the game, and to cut across from one
set of players to the other all afternoon.
Of course it was good golf, and the win
ning card of 75, all things considered, was
fine going. But the players have hardly
hit their, stride yet. Brady, who is her
aided to be the longest driver in the busi
ness certainly made considerable distance,
but it is expected that before he leaves
we will see him breaking all records
down the course. McNamara's putting
was not up to his usual phenominal form,
and he had to be content with a score of
87. It is only fair however to say that
the greens had been recently sanded and
were not quite as fast as the players
anticipated.
Lagerblade won, Tom Kerrigan was
second in 76, one stroke behind, and Wil
son and Doyle tied for third place with
81 each. Kerrigan went out with the
best score, a 37, only one stroke above
par. Wilson made the smallest single
score on one hole, doing the treacherous
but short 17th, the masterpiece of the
course, in a pretty two.
Lagerblade 's card was :
