f "Weller 's matches were won by the nar
rowest pssible margin, and Hunt reached
the semi-finals by winning every match
n the last hole.
Donald Parson had a closer squeak still
pulling down the consolation prize. J.
W. Howell of Baltusrol pushed him to
the 20th hole before a decision was
reached.
Disposing of J. P. Bowman of Eoches
ter, P. E. Heller of New York and Will
iam Jarvie of Bass Rock without a great
effort A. L. Carr of Bellevue reached the
semi-finals f the fourth division, and en
nexed the Captain's trophy by beating
E. J. Baldwin of Springfield two up and
one to play.
The evenest match, and the most pro
longed in the tournament was between
H. P. Hotchkiss of New Haven and T. A.
Dewolf of Baltusrol. It was in the final
round of the ninth division. They were
even up on the 18th; and halved the
nineteenth and the twentieth. It looked
as if they might coninue on around the
course until the millenium, but a good
putt on the 21st brought the suspense
to a close in favor of Hotchkiss.
Another desperate finish was the
victory recorded for James Barber in the
consolations of the seventh division, in
which he took the ninetheen holes to beat
S. E. Slaymaker of Apawamis.
