The Christinas Races Concluded from page three) Eleanor Abbott, Miss Bliss, Miss Nave, Miss Tufts, Miss Gold smith, Miss Sugg and Mrs. George Leach. THE MULE DERBY AUTOMOBILE RACE Five machines have entered for -this event. THE STABLE DOPE Opinion on the probable out come of the steeple chase is a badly divided affair. Anyone looking for a tip in the paddock can find one to suit him. Miriam H. finally came off with the most races to her credit last year, get ting the better of the Wanamak er entry, and showing a definite superiority over Travellor. But Travellor has improved, and is re garded as one of the steadiest horses in the Pinehurst string. Hurd has always been partial to him, and has recently been a big winner backing him in the flat races against the pick of the field. He will ride him Christmas day, and has considerable to say on his prospects. But he will be riding against another of his string, the tho roughbred Kittron. Kittron has not been tried out over the jumps in public ; his speed is well known, and he has the bottom for a stiff pace. Eddie Coleman, who is slated to ride him, is the only flat authority we have for his being a sure thing. Chase, the fine looking bay that carried off the purse in the Guests' event last Wednesday, is also entered an other mount whose steeple chas ing ability is an unknown quanti ty. Old George is the best jump er of the lot, and makes the bar riers in splendid form. The only question is whether he has the am bition to keep the lead of so fast an aggregation. Meantime all speculation is put up in the air by George Maurice, who intimates that he has found a horse that will make the whole bunch look like a picture of still life. His easy confidence and his clam like silence on further par ticulars make anyone wary of giving odds with the field. Swinnerton still offers to cover all bets on his Are Amm Bee, and only laughs when Thomas prom ises to repeat his performance of two weeks ago with Farmer Boy. But Farmer Boy is not the whole problem. Mattie the Great is heralded as a pacer that is en tirely out of the class of any thing we have seen it is inti mated that she will simply walk away from the local stuff, and spend her time establishing rec ords. This is all very well. But Penny chimes in and says, "What about Walter C. ? Walter C. has been running the Grand Circuit all Summer entered twenty-one races and bore off the money in twenty-one of them. J. C. Thomas himself has nothing but praise for this horse, which he has driven in many a hot encounter. He says that if he can bring him into the stretch in the lead, that nothing on four feet can ever beat him home. Walter C. runs geared up like a full rigged ship, and many is the race he has won by reason of his invincible appear ance. As Senator Cammack said of Colonel Roosevelt, his natural gait is running away, and when he lights out down the course Thomas yells, "Look out, I can't hold him," and everybody give gangway. We are informed by the racing committee that Barnie Oldfield and Guy Vaughn will lead a field of cars around the track which will astonish the multitude if they don't go over the fence and into the rotunda of the Carolina on the first curve. There will be five cars in this performance, driven for big money. The sur vivors get the money.
