mm. THE PINEHURST OUTLOOK DANFORTH AND THOMPSON VV M) TTZZZZZ Take Third Place at the Head of the Tin Whistles Big Tie for C1M in Twelve Hole Contest AND NOW two other champions have come tearing through the lists, and ecattering the precedents, and dis tancing the old vic tors, and causing trepedation in the tents of the favorites in the first division when the big guns begin to shoot. They are none other than F. S. Danforth, of North Fork, and J. M. Thomp son of the cunning cleek. In an army corps the Tin Whistles went into the fray on Saturday in two divisions with the ranks full. Achilles Whittemore was back at the trench, and the cohorts were headed by Becker and Hunter, leader of the lists, clothed in no handicap to speak of. The trophies of the day's chase were rewarded for the best twelve holes, six in each nine. These two Danforth and Thompson divided the final honor with a net of 42, some thing under fours, eking out a hard victory over H. C. Fownes of Pittsburgh by the margin of one stroke. And except for the inevitable Whittemore they also made the best round of the day on number two, an even 80 each. The Brookline player came back with 78, 39 out and 39 in. Meanwhile the second divi sion in the flank were engaged in such close work that it needs must take another tournament to settle the matter. Seven in all the leaders came home, even to an ell, recording seven 45s for first place. This advance guard was composed of C. W. Harmon E. M. Slavton, Robert Foote, G. T. Dunlap, J. M. Robinson, C. Z. Eddy and H. S. Houston. SUMMARY Twelve selected holes six from each nine. CLASS A F. S. Danforth 42 3880 6 42 J. M. Thompson 41 3980 7 42 H. C. Fownes 40 4484 7 43 C. G. Dixon . . 39. . 5 44 J. D.
